Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
On Locatelli.
Arsenal sources deny making any official bid (there's a feeling Sassuolo are using Arsenal's name to get Juve to offer more).
But, I am told Arsenal's interest in Locatelli is genuine and there has been contact between the clubs. A move hasn't been ruled out. https://t.co/W2oebnuvCU

So we are going to pay potentially £50M for a player who as Augie pointed out has played, 36 EPL games instead?TeeCee wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:47 amReallybut i'm struggling with White, i currently don't see him as any better than what we![]()
We play Rob fucking Holding regularly FFS! A championship level player. Look at who we have, there isn’t a single CB who you would say ‘we can’t afford not playing him, he’s that good’!!
I like Gabriel, I think he’ll be a good player despite the second half of last season, Mari is an ok backup for 10 games a season, Chambers the same maybe but if we want to be a ´top 4’ team we need a CB who we think is as important as PEA when he’s on his game, or ESR in full flow. I’ve no idea if White is that capable but we DO need it……as well as about 5 other players!
How exactly are you quantifying him being a suitable replacement, on the back of his England selection?
We might as well use Saliba who we don't actually have to pay anything more for.
Time and time again this club makes idiotic decisions based on next to no evidence, yes every single signing is always a punt but as has rightly been pointed out for a supposedly cash strapped club some of the ridiculous decision making on signings and contracts over at least the last 10 years are baffling.
I would still rather anyone but Edu and Arteta were in charge because the hole they are digging seems to be getting deeper and deeper but we are stuck with them for the foreseeable future and supporters need to be realistic too we aren't getting anywhere near a top 4 finish buying Ben White from B&HA.
Contrary to popular opinion defence wasn't really our biggest problem last season, big money needs to be spent or at least is better spent improving creativity and attack first.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Totally agree Muzz. If this Ben White story is accurate then it beggars belief. It surpasses the Jordan Ibe and Rhian Brewster transfers combined!
£50m+ for someone that's played less than a full season of matches. Utter stupidity imo.
Money that's better spent on areas that need far more improvement than our defence.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I'd imagine you'd get a half decent manager for 50% of a Ben White.

SunSport understands the #Arsenal man wanted around £8.7m a year - £167,000 per week - to play in MLS which is too much for David Beckham's side. https://t.co/zZK2XKfha3
Yet again we’ll be paying overpaid useless twats to fuck off otherwise they’ll hang around like Ozil did
You and me said a month ago that this c.unt aint going anywhere without a pay off, and of course that is exactly how it is panning out - he is on too much coin with us, and no other club will pay him that and he wont take a big pay cut, so now we have the prospect of having him here for another season at least

We have a woefully inadequate manager with the beginnings of a Wenger complex and the last thing we need is his ideology being let loose on more youngsters. The has been players we've been saddled with lately seem to be only here to pick up a pension
Surely we should be building a core of hard working, experienced, mid career players who can help bring through the young talent we have or at the least limit the any further damage Arteta can inflict.
It would seem it is not only the management that are deluded but more of the supporters than I thought too.
I made the point last week that we cant afford proven quality players at their peak, plus no proven quality player would touch us with a barge pole

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Third option is the George Graham way and look at the Football League. I know the game has changed a hell of a lot since but there must still be some rough diamonds down there surely whatever their nationality.
If only we had a proper scouting system.

It's not an obsession but sensible business who will have a sell on venue. I've,always said we should use the Dortmund model given our financial status , of course this does require good scouting and then coaching.....augie wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 1:30 pmGoonerMuzz wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 7:30 amI agree with that DB, this obsession with youngsters makes no sense. Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Lot of people highlighting our defensive record being good last year, as evidence we don't need a CB.
That's mainly due to the complete negative tactics rather than the ability of the current incumbents.
If we are to score more goals we will need to attack more (and sign some creativity to help ESR), thus exposing the defense more.
Ben white as i have expressed before is not the answer, but to say we shouldn't be signing a CB is silly, we don't have a top CB, but if we are to get back where we should be we need one. We will sadly probably never know is Saliba could be, and i retain hopes for Gabriel, but the rest are mid table at best.
If we are to get back we need improving everywhere with imo, only Tieney, Saka, ESR, Martinelli, and Partey - yes he was gash mostly, but was immense at Athletico so i think with right player alongside him and with correct manager (fuck that) - as not needing to be upgraded.

I find it incredulous that the club will allow pep's water boy to force this kid out the door without giving him a chance, when you consider how much money the club shelled out for him

from the Metro today:
Manchester City have entered the race to sign Brighton centre-back Ben White ahead of Arsenal, according to reports.
The Gunners saw their initial £42 million bid for White, which included £3m worth of add-ons, rejected by Brighton last month.

Sadly they were all sacked and Edu & his bum Boys put in charge.
