That's not true though augie. We've had 3 actual lockdowns here in Ireland for example. And no one in government or NPHET said the vaccines were a guarantee of a return to normal life. Most advised that there was no guarantee at all.

I think what people are forgetting here is that there is a new variant in play.

Back in May when there were few cases we were going along fine - we might as well have opened up then.
The problem is that Boris let the Indians in with their new highly transmissable Delta variant so in reality we should have locked down further at that point.
Yes it is fantastic that the vaccines are working, BUT with the number of cases poised to now really explode then there is a big chance that this thing mutates as we approach winter.
Then what? If the vaccines prove useless against a mutation then this country is fucked.

Boris has gambled today by doing something no other country on earth would risk doing.
