I absolutely agree with you, old boy. This has been going on for twenty fucking years this whole buy a player for the future fucking nonsense. Isn't the whole idea behind spending millions on an academy and pathway programme just all about finding players for the future? For a club of our size and standing, there should always be a steady stream of players coming through the academy over a two-five year period to never need to ever buy players for the future from elsewhere and if you do, surely that proves that your system is either not good enough or the players being scouted and recruited into it, aren't good enough. Wenger never trusted the youth system because I think he had such personal disdain for the English football system and English culture in general that he went out of his way to find players from other countries. The youth pathway at Arsenal was absolutely destroyed for years with the main purpose seeming to be to earn a few quid every year to cover the running costs through providing a steady flow of players to clubs like Colchester, Reading or Stevenage. Yes, we've had a number come through to play in the first team in the last couple of years but I would suggest that this is a result of the absolutely horrific state that the club was allowed to sink into during the last decade of the Wenger dictatorship. If those boys were five years older, he'd have had them out the door for a few hundred thousand about a year ago and replaced them with either 16 year olds from Spain and France or 38 year olds from Manure or the chavs. Perhaps this boy will be a great signing, perhaps he's another one from the recent Belgian talent line, but I really can't get too excited about bringing in a 21 year old from the Belgian league.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 2:56 pmI wish the lad well as I do with all new signings but it galls me when we go out and buy 'promise', as I see it as the job of our Academy to do that. How can Anderlecht with their resources produce kids that can walk straight into our team and supposedly cost us £18m or so, at his tender age? Surely we should be spending what money we do have on proven class (aged 25-30) and supplementing it with our own kids?Perryashburtongroves wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 2:40 pmApparently, he's a great passer , reads the game well and gets stuck in. He'll last about three games before Arteta decides he doesn't need the last two and gives him 15 minutes every six weeks with the instruction of "just pass it back to the keeper every time "Kingralph wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 2:05 pmAlbert Songi Lookslikeanotherwastedfewmillion Finally announced on the .com

20 years of pissing money up the wall on shite has led us to the need to buy “potential”. Every Willian kills the club. If we do a deal like that again you just know that someone is on the take. There is literally no other explanation. I actually think we will start to get things right. Young, hungry talent is what we need. Ship out the expensive, wage hungry shite. We might actually go somewhere.

Definitely mate. Similar to GG's clearout of Mariner, Woodcock, Williams etc is needed.BobbyPires7 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 8:39 pm20 years of pissing money up the wall on shite has led us to the need to buy “potential”. Anyone else shrug when they announced it? I hope he goes on to be the next Paddy V but as of the here and now, I couldn't really give a toss.
Everyone we've been linked to has been fucking underwhelming. Maddison is priobanlt the stand-out, but he's far too injury prone.
The only thing I'm excited about is the slim possibility of Arteta getting sacked this season.

One of the quotes I read (think it was from edu) suggested that this guy will add great depth to our midfield and I'm thinking to myself "what about the here and now ?". Signing edu back in the day to add squad depth behind PV4 and petit or gilberto is one thing, but we have a poor/average midfield right now, and if he isnt classed as a starter ahead of the shite we currently play there, then wtf did we sign him for ? Isnt Azeez supposed to be a great prospect for the future ? Should he be the squad depth person, or is he gonna be sent out on loan ?
As DB10 says, I am whelmed at this signing

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Number one criteria for a player joining should be ...does he want to join?
Willian didnt and made that clear from the start
Dont give 2 fucks about the signings TBH..have no confidence in the management team
Just want one thing...thats that fucker Xaha to leave the Arsenal...absolutely despise the fella

According to @angelomangiante, Granit Xhaka will be at Roma's training camp in Portugal next week. The transfer is almost done. https://t.co/HiC3gdzgQa

I think it just goes to show that they don't quite have a clue. The sound bites are generic and the transfers are lacklustre; it's quite honestly the worst we've been in years. The worst part about it is the former, it's very clear that we don't have an idea of what we want to do as a club. If we do then it's communicated atrociously.augie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 5:31 amArsenal Till I Die wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 10:51 pmAnyone else shrug when they announced it? I'm sick of seeing our name linked to Locatelli. It's obvious that the he wants Juve and isn't paying any attention to our offer, so, if the rumours are true, why are we wasting time on the prick?
I can see this being a summer saga and him ending up at Juve and us with Delph or some shit.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Well let’s be very thankful we didn’t end up with Rafa Benitez as manager….. his first two signings are Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray!!!! Fuck me, aiming for mid-table or what!!???

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Fresh link is with Tammy Abraham. Which is just baffling, we have Lacazette, PEA and Martinelli who can play down the middle and all three are better than Tammy. There is no need to sign a striker or even a wide player. All focus needs to to be at the back and in midfield.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Danny Mills on talksport is on fire. First he says Man United should have been in for Ben White over Varane as White has 'proven it in the premier league', where as you know Varane has only 4 CL winners medal a World Cup medal. According to Mills proving adequacy in the premier league is the gold standard in world football. Then he said Ben White was 'better' than Arsenal and should not be moving here.
Im all for White signing & think he is a good player. But what is it with shit pundits with no respect for La Liga, Serie A or the Bundesliga. You can throw in Andy Gray too, the villain who first raised the idea of whether Messi would do it at Stoke. The questions is not whether Messi could hack it in the premier league, the question is if he played in the premier league would he break the goal scoring record.
