Arteta on Brighton's penalty: "I have never seen a decision like this in my career."

Arteta speaking to BBC Match of the Day about Ethan Nwaneri:

"Really bad news because I think we've lost him, we had to take him off at half-time with some muscular issues."

And I agree with him re their penalty, BUT to focus purely on that (as it seems everyone is) means we are failing/refusing to see the issues regarding team performances and lack of quality in some players - it isnt just today's game cos we were muck in first half against brentford the other day, and generally speaking our performances this season have fallen well below the required level. Like I said earlier, our tactics and our lack of killer instinct is coming from the manager, and you cant win a league playing lazy half arsed football as much as we do.

Again I am fuming over the penalty decision too, but watch the fan boys cling onto that as the excuse in the coming weeks as a means of deflecting from our glaring shortcomings
Stop augie ffs buddy. You do this every time! It's been said on this thread multiple times by multiple posters we were not good enough. But that cannot excuse a shocking penno decision and we are right to be outraged man.

Did I not say that I was outraged too ?? I havent seen the replay where saliba apparently gets the ball before contacting with their player, but I still dont think it was a penalty even if he didnt touch the ball. The decision that I highlighted in first half where he didnt give us advantage and didnt book their player was another shocker, and like rodders I was literally shouting/screaming at the tv when he gave us no free for the same challenge on martinelli that he had penalised calafiori for literally 30 seconds before that - how in gods fcuking name can you have two identical incidents within a minute and give two different decisions ?? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

But our performance was as bad as the referee's - we were playing against a team that hadnt won in 8 games (I'm told) and yet we backed off when we had our foot on their throat. We have a mentality weakness that runs from the manager to the players and into (some) fans, and it angers me tbh

Another way of looking at it, if Legohead was a scouse agent sent to ensure a scouse league title, he’d be doing an almost perfect job, that in itself should be grounds for booting him.

And if nwaneri is gone too, his squad depth is not just going to bite, but it’ll clamp down and lock.

The pitiful transfer policy at the club will be laid bare for the world to see with one man to blame

Take a bow Scouse agent Legohead
Let’s get the next bright thing in then. Just tell me who it is.
You don’t need the next bright thing, that implies we had the previously bright thing, we didn’t…we hired a novice, a man with no managerial experience at the level required or anywhere near it. We took a punt and were continuously paying the price.

As for who to actually bring in, you give me my salary and transfer budget and I’ll give you names.

Or if I have that muppets 800 odd million I figure you could entice anyone you like.

Another be careful what you wish for merchant, enjoy the next god knows how many years of this idiot.
Weird. Let’s get Ange in. Or Amorim. Or we can try Emery again. See what happens.
And yet that's not what he said, Five-to-Limerick.
So obvious!   :barscarf: :barscarf:

Are you angry away from this forum?! ;)

Robbed by a clearly corrupt system/agenda, but we were crap anyway, squad far to weak. Not improved player wise on lat season and control tactics don't work.

Just calmed down enough to post. I haven’t read the in-game posts yet, so might be repeating everything.

Absolute piss take of a penalty decision, but fuck me what a chronically awful display. Limerick arguing pre match with me about the quality of our midfield players….well anyone watching that who still doesn’t think that Partey, Merino and Jorginho are woefully substandard needs to give up and watch the fucking darts!!

I said beforehand that if I were in the side I wouldn’t misplace so many passes as the clown Partey, but you could pluck anyone from Sunday league to improve on his piss poor distribution. Then there’s Merino’s air shot from the Rice free kick to add to his Championship overall performance.

Also, wtf has happened to Rice this season. He was never a £105 million pound player in my book, but he’s gone backwards.

As for Jesus.   Gotta laugh or I’ll burst into tears.

Disgrace of a penalty decision, but fuck me we might as well give the title to the scousers now. We’re no way a title winning side. Shows you how often it’s left to Saka to dig us out of the shit.

Fucking furious. Arteta on borrowed time til the season end as far as I’m concerned. :banghead: :banghead:

Evidence VAR completely fucked up. Saliba touches the ball before the accidental clash of heads.

Just looked at that a few times more and it's clear that Saliba heads the ball first. Clear and indisputable. So why didn't the VAR cûnts look at it properly with all the replays that they should be looking at? They can't get away with it now because I'm seconds, someone with the same technology and a Twitter account will highlight it and show them up for being corrupt or incompetent. The club need to be highlighting this and the Premier League need to explain why their officials are time and time again either incompetent or corrupt.
The VAR decision was made incredibly quickly I thought. Surely it was one of those that should have gone to the monitor for the ref to check ?
VAR was Darren England the man that cancelled a goal for Liverpool against Spuds and was told that he could never ref a victims game again . Just trying to make amends.

A man that has clearly and beyond any doubt shown that he is incapable of understanding either the laws of the game or the VAR technology. The Premier League need to explain why heading the ball is a penalty? We should be demanding an explanation as to why they didn't check this properly.

Agree with all that. I don’t think Arteta is a “bad” coach, but he’s out of his depth now. In an ideal world he’d get a handshake for a decent job and pop off to a smaller club to improve his skills and learn some variation. But we all know this ends in a couple of years with us finishing 6th or 7th, Odegard gone to Madrid, and Arteta getting sacked.

We might not even be top 4 this season. Man City are just six points behind us - in sixth place.

At least if you could console yourself thinking maybe Liverpool might get screwed over by decisions in the next few games to even things up it mightn’t be so bad but there’s no way they’d ever be on the receiving end of shit like tonight or the delaying the restart farce.

Liverpool scraped past palace earlier in the season and this happened near the end of the game. Fuck all given. Countless examples of this shit :banghead:

Saliba 1 million percent conceding a penalty if he does this.

I knew someone would come out with the “but he wasn’t in midfield” lame excuse. If you read what I wrote then you’ll see I was talking about his distribution. The most straightforward of passes are underhit, overhit, or most of all misplaced to the opposition. Wherever he’s playing on the pitch is irrelevant, his passing stinks. In fact, you get more time as a full back than in centre mid, but he misplaces balls when he’s not under pressure. It’s a disgrace and fully on Arteta that Partey is still at the club. Should have been sold 2 summers ago when we could have got a reasonable fee for him.

Sorry, but if you didn’t think he was that bad then I can’t help you. All I’ll say is re-watch the game and examine every involvement of his. His passing in the first half particularly was embarrassingly dire.

Unfortunately, you’re probably right. Back to the bad old days of top 4 being a trophy under the Old Fraud. Big clubs with ambition don’t set the bar that low. That mentality is why we’re not winners. When 2nd best is fine, you won’t be first.
