Was that double hit conclusive. Hard to see.

From the angles they showed, I didn't think his left foot touched the ball. Very quick VAR decision.

One ruled out for a double touch, one off the underside of the bar and back out and then how Oblak didn't keep Rudiger's final pen out I'll never know. It always seems to fall Real's way.

Oh well, the QF could be grim watching. :|

We have a better chance against Real Madrid than these Atletico vampires

He can nod them in from those corners we're apparently still so good at.

Just after saying the same thing to my buddies here - I have watched it a few times from a few different angles, and I honestly could not say for definite one way or the other :? It is doubtful if the roles were reversed that the decision would have over-turned a real madrid goal. but real madrid were always uefa favourites

Even if he did inadvertantly feather his standing foot with the ball after he kicked it, it is grossly unfair that the rules decree that such a penalty is deemed a miss. Unless a double-kick is deliberate (which you can't allow!) it should simply be retaken.

If the keeper moves off his line before the ball is kicked (accidentally or deliberately) and saves the ball he gets a second chance; a penalty goal is not awarded.

That is a very good argument - should be a retake at least

Agreed. It would be the sensible thing to do.

Very surprised at the lack of protest from the Atletico players, if for no other reason to disrupt the next Real taker. It was hardly an open-and-shut case! and a few of them could have risked a yellow card surely.

This year’s Europa League is piss poor. Like proper piss poor. I flicked through most of the games and saw a cameo of each. There is literally no decent footballing side in it. United or Spurs could win it. Brace yourselves.

The evidence was not conclusive, allowing for ground movement, and the ref should've been sent to the monitor at the very least. Crazy decision given the stakes

I think teams not dropping down from the CL has made it less competitive

If you win it now then you shouldn't get into the following year's Champions League. It just devalues it for the following year that dross that finish 14th and 15th in a domestic league end up getting in to it. At least when you had the teams dropping down, it kept the standard up but entry to the Champions League should be by league placing or winning it.

England basically has the 5th Champions League place. Virtually guaranteed already.
