Guitarist's Thread

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

yeah there got to be a learning sweet spot between scales and chords, strumming patterns, fingerstyle patterns and then actually playing something.

I always get pissed off when you see a tab for a song you like....then you watch the Artist live and the tab doesnt seem anything like whats actually being played until you get to the knowledge that theres an open B flat but also a 6th fret B flat serving the same purpose but sounding a bit different, Its one of those stick with it things where your hoping for the payoff that might not ever materialize, at least ya get to make some noise in the meantime!
The first time I saw a guitarist use Drop D tuning live (long before the internet) I had no idea what the fuck was going on. It literally did not sound like what his fingers were doing!

I'd only started learning so I hung back after the gig and asked the guy and he very kindly sat me down and explained it and even let me jam a bit on his guitar.

That guitarist was Gary Moore. 8)

Or Gerry Moore or something. Lad from Galway.

What a nice gem of a story! You lucky barsteward... 8) a one on one with Gary Moore!!!Ohhh! Maaan! What a player....

I can still remember where I was and whom I was with(*) when I first heard "Parisienne Walkways"

(*) On the island of Capo Testa in Sardinia (Famous for it's Lace Making by the islands Women. They all used to dress in Black and sit in the Sun threading and weaving on these wooden looms and on their laps)... It wasn't a typical Holiday Destination back then, we had hired this (more or less Semi-delapidated) cottage come small villa from an (Italian) Big Sorry Sardinian Family who ran a small restaurant where we lived in the UK... we had to get our water by the bucket from a hand pump just outside the back door... But it was a half minute walk to just fall into the sea....Blue (as in BLUE!) waters and White sands...an old stone fireplace...a charcoal oven and 2 tiny electric light bulbs run from a generator...

(*) It was a very warm July night, with literally no street lighting (back then) It felt like one could reach up and actually touch the Stars, her name was Seren (means 'Star' in Welsh) and we were young, carefree and there for a whole month......<sigh> There was a Battery Powered Radio and we'd found this radio station that played Rock & Pop music from midnight to 6am...and that was when we first heard it...

We had lost in the FA Cup Final Nil - 1 to Ipswich  So I needed a Holiday.... Turned out to be one of the Best Holidays of my life....I went back there 8 years ago and it had Totally Changed (for the worse) :?

(sorry  drifted away on one there)

(Cough! cough!) Anyway... Every time he played it he put his Heart, Soul and Bones into every note.

:rubchin:
At something of a tangent does anyone know what this Toe Tapping little toon is please? (and who did it?) Apparently it's from the 1980's ....
