That's Cold DB even for you.! ...Good job I'm more of a phlegmatic type or I might take offence!

as an English person living in England I thought the voice overs was done to protect the Sinn Fien members from being recognised and arrested ?
It was literally so that the tv channels could get around the Irish government ban (since 1971) and the UK government ban (1988) on the sinn fein scum defending the murdering IRA filth on public broadcasting channels.
Thanks for that DBDB10GOONER wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:26 pmIt was literally so that the tv channels could get around the Irish government ban (since 1971) and the UK government ban (1988) on the sinn fein scum defending the murdering IRA filth on public broadcasting channels.
Absolutely mate. I've never understood that culture of ingrained hatred, especially based on something like religion. Live and let live.gazzatt2 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 2:59 pmThanks for that DBDB10GOONER wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:26 pmIt was literally so that the tv channels could get around the Irish government ban (since 1971) and the UK government ban (1988) on the sinn fein scum defending the murdering IRA filth on public broadcasting channels.
as a youngster growing up in that time (born 1961) I only had our press to go by
I still don't understand it and looks to me its people re running battles fought centuries ago (same as the Scots with their independence etc)
it seems a shame that some people live there whole life with hatred for people they don't even know
as seen from last week life is short
Going to pull you up on that one DB on the basis of you not having a fucking clue what you're talking about.DB10GOONER wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 4:13 pmAbsolutely mate. First off! the struggles and protests of Catholics was never about hatred of Protestants, it was about injustice, discrimination in jobs, housing and much more.
The IRA were only ever in the background during the Civil Rights protests, where Catholics were beaten into the ground by the "murdering filth" that was the RUC and the B Specials, our supposed impartial police force!
Then the British Army joined in on the persecution and murder, culminating in Bloody Sunday!
This was the catalyst for hundreds of young lads joining the IRA, there didn't seem to be any other way.
As with all wars there are heinous crimes, usually authorised and covered up by those at the top.
So I agree with your sentiment when it comes to the likes of Adams and Mc Guinness!
But not hundreds of young lads who joined believing they were fighting for the Irish Unity, which the traitor Michael Collins sold us out on, in order to accommodate Protestant Planters who were shipped mostly from Scotland to steal land and push out Irish tenant farmers!
Those lads were soldiers who often went into head to head gun battles against highly trained british troops, gun battles in which they never stood a chance!
Eamonn Lafferty died in the hallway of the flat beneath the one I lived in, shot in the head when taking on single handed a british army patrol, which was incurring into what was then Free Derry.
And whilst the IRA did commit some terrible acts, Omagh, Eniskillen etc.
I do believe however that any british soldier, ulster defence regiment or RUC personnel that were killed were Legitimate targets just the same any IRA volunteer.
The real sectarian murders were committed by Loyalist Paramilitaries, who cowardly shot Catholics solely on the basis of their religion.
The IRA did get dragged into this tit for tat killing in the late 80s and early 90s, when the Loyalist murder squads, supported by british intelligence, UDR and RUC were killing Catholics on a daily basis.
But with hindsight it was the IRA playing the same game as the Loyalist Paramilitaries that finally brought things to a head as we were on the verge of a Civil War.
I remember I had just moved back to Derry after 5 years in England. I was working Night Shift in an engineering firm on the outskirts of Derry in a predominantly Loyalist area and I can tell you it was scary!
So anyway, if anyone wants to know what it was like to grow up in "the troubles" don't ask someone from Dublin whose knowledge comes from RTE news!
Rant Over!!!!
