Why Not Play Scout: Suggest Possible New Signings !!!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why Not Play Scout: Suggest Possible New Signings !!!

Post by gunners-need-steel »

Many of us are concerned about the lack of transfer activities, especially with sales of current players.

Why not play scout and suggest potential players we should be looking at, and why you think they will blend into the team or are required.

My tentative spur-of-the-moment wish-list is as follows:

Middlefield/Strikers
=============
Matty Taylor (now of pompey)
+ long distance finishing for times when teams pack their buses in front of goal

SWP (now of chelsea if the price is not inflated)
+ pace, go past defenders, give extra ttacking options

Stephen Appiah (Ghanain, now of fernerbache)
+ engine and determination similar to michael essien ... he may not have the best touch or brains in the game, but the engine and sheer determination will provide much needed steele down the middle. Will also free berto to provide defensive cover esp. with ANC coming. Recently declared interest in joing arsenal .. I hope its true he is coming.

Kevin Nolan (now of bolton)
+ aerial power, steel, determination, long-distance finishing

An experienced central defender with aerial authority and pace, eg:
Puyol (why not be audacious)
Alex (ditto)
Curtis Davis (not so experienced, but there aren't many around)
etc etc

Matty Taylor - Not good enough (do you understand that All Arsenal 1886? He is not good enough!!!! )

SWP - Good enough but Arsene doesn't want him apparently!!

Stephen Appiah - Not good enough and Arsene doesn't want him

Kevin Nolan - Not good enough (this is Arsenal, not 'Kick Em Up The Arse Wanderers'!!!)

Puyol - Isn't he in his early 30's? If not, he is fast approaching. Anyways, he is not strong enough in the air or fast enough on the ground to hack it in the Premiership (have you not seen Barcelona defend?? :? )

Alex - Could fit the bill but he is a Chelsea player now and was only on loan to PSV.

Curtis Davies - Why when, as you admit, he is inexperienced? We already have Johan Djourou who I believe is better and could become a future great player.

Apart from that, your suggestions were spot on!!

Considering the amount of problems he always seems to give us, and leaving blinkers aside, Arjen Robben. When he is not being a complete c**t and falling over every 2 seconds, he is still one of the most effective wide men around.

Dimitar Berbatov - on last seasons showing, has the touch to link midfield and attack, and score some goals. Very useful.

Was about to reply in almost the same way, but as I have already been so negative tonight, I called my therapist and he told me that at least one post should be positive. And that last one was it. So this one doen't have to be.

So everyone can just fuck off!

YOU ARE HAVING A LAUGH .. ARE YOU HAVING A LAUGH ?

Seriously though, this no-one-is-good-enough thing has to be checked ... we had enough last year to have been serious contenders in all comeptitions right down to the wire, but the missing ingredient was some steele .. which is why we struggled with lesser opposition who came to defend and play physical football.

To be successful, we need to blend in some steel ... I think not all players need to have the finest of touches .. its a team game, and a blend is required. :!:
HE'S HAVING A LAUGH...IS HE HAVING A LAUGH?

Even with the teams that came to defend we created bucket loads of chances, openings, threat.... Our play suffered from not making the right choices, most notably in the choice between putting the ball between the sticks as opposed to over or either side.

And any player that we get in with more steele should also come with a certain level of ability. It's not one or the other. Unfortunately, the best midfielder of his kind in Europe, Essien ,is already spoken for so let's hope Diaby takes some strides forward this season.

My friend, I have not said no-one is good enough. Indeed, I agreed with your selections of SWP and Alex but gave reasons why they were unlikely to be signed. As for the rest, they really are not good enough - and unfortunately, I'm not having a laugh!!

I agree we do need a bit of steel but it has to come with quality in addition to the toughness, ala Vieira/Keane in the past or Gerrard/Essien/Mascherano currently.

No disrespect but there must be some players out there that fit the criteria much better than the likes of your suggestions Appiah, Nolan and Taylor. The problem is, do we have the ambition/finances to get them?

I'd love to see Shunsuke Nakamura play for us personally, I love watching him play.

And he can score from distance too.

Anyone remember the free kick vs manure in CL last season?

SWP,Nolan and Matt Taylor are big fishes in a small pond.Look what happened to SWP when he joined a big team.We need to sign players who can do it on the big stage when they are surounded by good players. With our stadium and our gates of 60,000 we should be signing world class players not average english players.

i think our answer to the steel question is to buy some not overly talented but exceptionally violent 7 foot tall mentalists whose sole job will be to break the other teams best players knee caps if they try any of the rough stuff, i'm sick and tired of teams getting away with beating up our players and getting away with it.

Jaws from the Bond movies

Not the brightest, but can follow instructions and has plenty of steel in his mouth.

Good point though - someone has to be in there looking after things.

Ive heard it all now this summer!

Kevin Nolan, Robbie Fowler, Puyol and there was the classic Marlon Harewood suggestion last week!

Jesus christ I even fell out with ECD over him suggesting Jermaine Defoe! Turns out it was one of the more sane suggestions!

Look boys I know its been a hard summer but have we sunk so low to be suggesting the above names? You do all support the same Arsenal as me dont you? Or do you support some other side in a standard of football beffiting the above characters called Arsenal too?

Can we please stop clutching at straws! It shows a complete lack of understanding and knowledge for the game to be suggesting names that our now ex-legends used to take the wee-wee out of time after time!

Cmon give this up or its next stop Robbie Savage!
