Drug Taking In Footy…

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

They're supposed to be role models for young kids.

This is where I totally disagree with you. At what time are they meant to be role models for kids? If you're a kid and you want to play football like Henry, fine. But if you start thinking that "My idol took drugs so I should too!", then the idol might not be the one you want to take a shoot at...

I'm with you on that one Chippy!

If I had a picture or two of any Tottingham player being taken up the wrong un by a ladyboy then I would be straight over to the News of the Screws!

His family and feelings would be the last of my worries!

Very few players sign professional terms with the thought in mind that they want to be role models.

BUT such is the high profile of the game that they have the mantle of Role Model thrust upon them whether they like it or not.

I know that our African players take the role model thing very seriously, the are inspiring generations of kids in impoverished countries, hence Vieira has set up his DIAMBARS charity.

P.S. Gus...your last post has put me right off my tea, what a disturbing image!

I have to say I can't agree that our African players take their role model status seriously!

How Adebayor can preach to impoverished kids whilst asking for £100k a week and how Eboue can profess to be a man of honour and integrity I do not know!

Anyhow back to snorting bugle!

Where's the contradiction between asking for 100k a week (and no way is he on that) and being a role model?

For all Ade's detractors, the guy does a lot of charity work in Africa.

Eboue no role model on the pitch but improving!

that load of tosh again. why do people ALWAYS trot out that little chestnut. no footballer asked to a a role model to any kids. they have a right to do what they like without people telling them how they should behave. just because someone can ply football well does not make them responsible for the behaviour of children.
