No Centre Back

Post by RaM »

(Arsene) On whether Inter Milan’s goal exposed a defensive weakness...

"We have to work on that. In the air we have to be more efficient because in England that’s an important way to stop goals. For me Senderos played very, very well yesterday and he is good in the air. We have Djourou, who is injured at the moment, as well. So I feel we don’t want to buy a centre back."

So no new centre back it seems. I have to say though such goals are our achilles. Maybe Le Boss knows a way to fix it though without expense.

The good side is, the one or two signings, will be attackers. Maybe a winger for each side?

I was sitting down at that end and it was the same old story as last season. Our back four just cant seem to combat the man they are marking. We've seen it loads of time. The opposition just seem to power past our defenders and always manage to be higher and in front of them. How many goals did we give away to crap opposition last season in exactly the same way. I cant see it going away. I was hoping to see the new goalkeeper maybe in the second half to see how he copes with corners and set pieces. It was a good header though, and the Mad Hun didnt have no chance with it.

With Djourou not playing any part, maybe the rumours of a loan to Birmingham are true. That leaves us woefully short at the back.I have no faith at all in Senderos.Toure will be missing for 6 weeks. As for the Gallas/Toure partnership a cross played in the box Gallas out-jumped and we lose a goal.It happened so many times last season, we dominate a game yet give away a soft goal.A centre half who is good in the air is a must.

We could play bentdner at center half

Really though he looks like he scare some defenders, mabye some of corners will end in goals now, because god knows we got and wasted a lot of them last year.

I think that we need a hard case at the back, sometimes I think that Gallas lacks aggression, and Toure is great but still, he would not scare you like Adams, or Keown.
Even dixon had a nasty streak in him.
The Sol man also was a bit dirty, but was very sly with it.
Bergkamp new how to handle himself as well.

I would like to see some controlled agression / ruffing up every now and then!!!!

Only RVP lets the over players know he's arround and that is only when he gets frustrated by ref decisions.

By the way I am not talking about breaking peoples ankles, just a bit ruffing up to put poeple off their game, rather than looking forward to playing against us.

We looked shaky again today.

Need an aggressive centre back who will 'clear' an area everytime the ball goes in the box. Gutted Alex is going to Chelsea as he would be ideal.

There must be someone out there who would fit the bill?

If only Kolo was really blessed with the 'fro that Chopper's avatar suggests, we'd have no problem in the air at the back!
