LET ME STAND!!!!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

LET ME STAND!!!!

Post by Gooner Jim »

Every time I stand during a match at the emirates I am always told to sit down the person sitting behind me (ITS FUCKIN ANNOYING) or a steward tells me to sit down (ALSO FUCKIN ANNOYING) but some do let me move to the back seats if they are empty so no1 is behind me :D Im usually at the lower tier in the middle and the atmosphere is usually :groaner:
Maybe if we were all standing the atmosphere may improve at the emirates as its just a bit odd when chanting while sitting down. Does any1 else agree with me ? If so maybe we can all stand in protest!!! teach some of the stewards to leave us alone :banghead:

Jim

I do not agree with some of your post.

Whilst the atmosphere was better when we stood

What about the old and young who cannot stand?

If you stand, you block their view.

If you can stand at the back at a seating area, that should be ok, in that regard, but you risk a run in with the stewards.

I am not happy with stewarding at the stadium a number of issues, but on standing their hands are tied by the law.

(Sorry Pixie...I got carried away and missed your link and also posted twice by accident!)
Unwritten rule is if the rows behind you are sitting...you sit , if they are standing it is acceptable to stand while they are. Until the stewards notice that is!

Of course when its an elderly person or young child behind me I would sit down but I just find it annoying when people choose to just sit in silence when there are fans who would chant and get behind the team that cannot get tickets.
Im probably just being a miserable bugger. Just fed up of my mates who support liverpool, pompey and city slagging off our home atmosphere and our fans :banghead:

The official rule, which unfortunately is UK legislation, is that standing at football matches is outlawed, or something to that effect.
This rule is for all Premier league (and I think) and Championship.

The rule has several flaws.
Standing up to let someone through to there seat or to the aisle is not allowed. Okay I'm being picky but idea of sitting as the club puts it could create a 'domino' effect at an exciting moment. Correct! But that's when terraces were around and if someone fell forward now they'd end up on the floor of the row in front of them!!! That wouldn't create a domino effect!

So what happens if the whole stadium were to stay at there seats at half time and all jump around and stand?
The Stewards aren't bothered unless the game is in play.

So therefore we cannot celebrate a goal!!: banghead:

I stand because the others do around in front and behind as I'm in block 5 and very happy to stand.
Pixie I use that rule also not that I'd heard it as an 'unwritten' rule but as personally I'm aware of my actions. However, most (all) in block 5 want to stand and do so.

The Conservative Party were looking into trying to bring it back

One thing it important to point out is as much I'm in favour of standing I am against the return of terraces. There is a BIG difference!

It would have to be like how block 5 is where you stand at a 'given' place (like a seat) but would not increase any stadium capacity.
This would have to be in the corners of the stadium so that sight lines are not affected by those sitting in nearby blocks. This is without having to change the heights and/or level of the 'standing area.

There is a FIFA or more likely UEFA rule (typical) that Champions league fixture is also seated.
The Germans abide by this by having seats 'locked' into an up right position for all German league fixtures. Like cinema seats or the seats at the Grove but are more inconspicuous and out of the way for standing. So for Champs league fixture they are unlocked for use for seating.

Absolute rubbish all this you cannot stand up. If we cant stand up why can AWAY fans do it for the whole game.

Answers on a postcard please.

I'd guess its the same reason as the newcastle bloke drinking in the stands. The stewards think they have powers in home sections as they will trow u out and take tickets away if you give them any problems.

Away fans dont care especially Spurs fans as they wont be coming to the emirates next year. Maybe if they stopped them from loftus road they might sit down

As a Lib Dem I resent being called a bloody Tory!!! It is Lib Dem policy to allow standing.

There's only one solution to your post GoonerJim - bring back the terraces. We'll be allowed to stand as much as we want and the atmosphere will definitely come back.

Until then, sadly son, you'll have to sit down. As pointed out by Quartz, not all can see when you're standing and they've paid as much as you have.
