No players in Jan says Arsene?

Post by Basil is a Gooner »

From Arsenal.com

Arsène Wenger is not planning a spending spree in January because he does not believe his Arsenal players are failures. :banghead:

Not for the first time - and certainly not for the last time - the Frenchman spent a chunk of his pre-match press conference discussing his intentions when the transfer window swings open in the New Year.

The implication from this persistent line of questioning is that Arsenal's current squad is not good enough. But Wenger disputes this and insists that his players should be judged at the end of the season, not now.

"At the moment I am always answering questions like this," said Wenger. "But I tell you come back in May and we speak about it.

"I believe in this team and I believe in the strength of this team and I have always to answer questions that the team has 'failed'. We make a balance in May.

"You can expect Arsenal to be active tomorrow at 12.45 and for the rest January is a long time away. I believe that this team personally is very strong and recently they don't get any credit. But it's a good moment for this young team to grow together, show resilience, show strengths and an opportunity to be a strong team in the future.

"Good players can always help you but I believe at the moment I have good players here. I do not want to focus on January and I am not sure at all that I will buy.

"The solution is not always to buy players. The solution for me at the moment is to trust the players I have because I trust their strengths and I trust their intelligence, so let's show it." :banghead: :banghead:

COME ON ARSENE........

Can Arsenal beat Manchester United on Saturday? Of course they can! Will they? I doubt it.

Sorry for being the pesimist (for once!) but unless Bendtner stops being a bloody jessie it won’t happen. Don’t forget Gallas will be back to unsettle the defence.

I’d love Walcott to be played as the lone striker - he has pace and heart, and with Diaby/Cesc/Denilson in the middle of a five man midfield he’d have plenty of support in three forward thinking midfielders. We’d also be able to snuff out Carrick. Playing Manchester United will require pace and skill - Bendtner has the pace but he never lurks on the back of the defenders he is always drawn far to deep. Walcott however can hover and attack. Look at Rio, outpaced by the Hull forwards he was in disarray. Three midfielders with a constant rotation of popping forwards will also unsettle the back line - how many times did we see ljunberg and pires pop up unmarked in the box? Purely because they weren’t expected.

Nasri/Sagna (bear with me) on the wings as both get forward and both (Sagna in particular) can tackle.

Then Clichy/Toure as wing backs and Djourou/Gallas centre backs. Toure played well as right back on Wednesday, and playing Sagna in front of him, means you’d have two solid, no nonsense tacklers to clamp down on orange ronnie. What you wouldn’t want facing Ronaldo is Eboue getting out of postion and then giving the ball away.

But such a radical lineup is unlikely isn’t it and for that reason we’ll fail. We’ll probably play the same or similar team as at Stoke and try to defend a 0-0 (at home) and end up getting thumped.

Almunia
Toure-Gallas-Djourou-Clichy
Sagna-Cesc-Denilson-Diaby-Nasri
Walcott

Thats the team that could win. Its also a team that could stop leaking goals and put an end to Adebayors wastefulness in front of goal.

I fucking hope so. If we don't sign anyone in January, Villa will push us all the way for 4th. Oh, and rather than 4th place getting a nice cushy CL qualifier against some arse team from a forgotten European league, we'll be pitted against the 4th place team from Spain or Italy if we come 4th this season. The time for fucking about and trying to prove a point by winning the league for free is OVER.

He's bluffing the crazy ol'Professor. What a Card eh!

If he comes out and says we'll be buying that would both undermine current players confidence at the club and also (and more importantly) raise the price if Clubs know we're in the Market.

True, or he could simply mean, he might not buy, as he believes we have enough quality.

After all, most of us hoped he was bluffing over the summer, and especially on transfer deadline dead, amd he wasn't.. why would January be any different? especailly, when you consider the inflated prices, as clubs are reluctant to sell.

Look, this interview changes nothing, as you rightly say.. he's not going to say he'll buy players (it's not his way) but I'm not convinced he's bluffing.

Anyway, for what it's worth, Boomer.. I hope you're right!

Sad yet very true. The situation will just get worse if he doesn't bring in the necessary people capable to win hardware :(

Deadline dead  Well that feels like.
To be honest he did buy Silvestre a few days before the close.

I think this is a bluff as didn't he say (no surprise here) something different the other day.

Life of an Arsenal fan display in Emoticon's

Why? :?

Obviously, he can't say he's looking for a centre midfielder because Denilson can't tackle, or a centre back becuase Toure and Gallas can't head a ball, but...

why can't he say..

Yes, we are looking.. we are always looking to add quality to our squad, and if I believe a player can improve us, then I will try and sign him!

If that would negatively affect morale... then bloody hell, what a bunch of useless, weak minded players we have

As that will get spun into "Arsene thinks his players suck and will rehaul squad"

He tried to get 5 separate players we know about in the dm role, I doubt he is going to ignore it in Jan. The question is more can he get the players he wants in that month?
