That's a Wengerism in itself. Problem is you've just come out and said your're in the Market. Every club can up their selling price £2m per player.

I believe we were in for Alonso in the end. Liverpool needed the Cash for Barry which gives us leverage to barter for Alonso. Pool want £8M we could offer £5. (Which they need)

Sadly the Barry deal fell through and so went change for Alonso.

This is how Wenger is dealing now.

I'm sorry, but admitting that we're always looking to improve our squad, is not weakening our bargaining position!

Our position is weak because every club in the world now knows that we're desperate for a centre midfielder, centre back and goalie.. and they would be daft not to squeeze every last penny out of us, because of it!

That's what happens when you lose Diarra, Flamini and Gilberto and don't have a player lined up.. it makes you look desperate as you frantically try and do a last minute deal for Inler, Alonso, or whoever.

We brought that upon oursleves!

I would question how it is possible to be doing 5 transfers at one time, not least as Inler's rejection was some time before the window close. Wouldn't it make sense that Inler and possibly Toure rejected us after we had lined them up and we were left on the backfoot trying to fill the hole.

Oddly enough, I agree with Wenger.

For the simple reson that January transfers are invariably after thoughts. The clutchings of a drowning man as he reaches for any bit of driftwood that happens by.

The proper way to handle transfers is to plan carefully and act in the summer when there are the best part of 3 months to plan and prepare.

Ohh......... hang on.....we've missed that

He had that time and spent it acting as a UEFA envoy for some piffling sponsor; followed by a long sleep.

Meanwhile Hleb an Flamini departed and he did........well I suppose he clung onto Adeybayour.

He can't open his mouth these days without moving himself yet further, to the trap door marked 'Exit'.

Moreover he seems determined to do all that he can to antagonise every ounce of goodwill that might remain for him.

Sad really ! But come May it's four years of this 'experiement' and a verdict cannot be avoided. He could lead us to glory in Rome next May.

But if he does, he will have to vault the hurdle coming up tomorrow at 12.45 pm.

I'm not holding my breath.

Arsène Wenger is not planning a spending spree in January because he does not believe his Arsenal players are failures. :banghead:

Not for the first time - and certainly not for the last time - the Frenchman spent a chunk of his pre-match press conference discussing his intentions when the transfer window swings open in the New Year.

The implication from this persistent line of questioning is that Arsenal's current squad is not good enough. But Wenger disputes this and insists that his players should be judged at the end of the season, not now.

"At the moment I am always answering questions like this," said Wenger. "But I tell you come back in May and we speak about it.

"I believe in this team and I believe in the strength of this team and I have always to answer questions that the team has 'failed'. We make a balance in May.

"You can expect Arsenal to be active tomorrow at 12.45 and for the rest January is a long time away. I believe that this team personally is very strong and recently they don't get any credit. But it's a good moment for this young team to grow together, show resilience, show strengths and an opportunity to be a strong team in the future.

"Good players can always help you but I believe at the moment I have good players here. I do not want to focus on January and I am not sure at all that I will buy.

"The solution is not always to buy players. The solution for me at the moment is to trust the players I have because I trust their strengths and I trust their intelligence, so let's show it." :banghead: :banghead:

COME ON ARSENE........

what the fuck did you expect ! We called it on here a few days ago. The worse the team performs the more stubborn he becomes.....

I hate to say it, but it's 'High Noon'- or maybe that should be High 12.45'. Arsene - who I admire and still think is a great manager - is effectively moving towards a head-to-head, not just with Arsenal fans but the whole fooball media, all of whom think we urgently need at minimum a strong midfielder, to support Cesc, a couple of experienced heads and probably a change of captaincy. Arsene seems to be the only one with the opposite view. I truly hope he is right - but recent omens are not good.

Anyway, I'll be giving the boys my all tomorrow - and whatever happens I won't boo. But if we really get stuffed - and of course that's quite possible - after what he said today Wenger is really putting his head on the block. :banghead:

Let us see what Wenger does in January.

As G88ner says, everyone knows what positions we need to buy in.

But others need players too, and maybe deals can be done?
