a song for Gael!
instead of inventing songs for a player who has just joint the club! how about a song for a unsung player like Gael!
I was thinking of using the old Henry song
" I went to the pub the other night, I said to my friend we got the best left back he said to me who could it be? I said to him Gael Clichy Gael Clichy Gael Clichy.........."

i met up with a couple of the redaction guys yesterday, and one of the ideas that we developed was to put new chants for our players on youtube - it's such a great medium. think what's needed are...
a - someone who can compile footage of an individual player into m-peg format (assuming that's what youtube use)
this would play whilst the music is going on - probably just a singer and an acoustic guitar so that the words are clear. which of course requires...
b - a guitar player and/or singer to do quality recordings of the chants that are promoted.
anyhow, aside from that, one brilliant clip on youtube which you probably already know all about (but just in case a few don't) is sir perry groves doing a karaoke 'sweet caroline' in the rocket. aural golddust -

Just off the top of my head, how about a version of 'Partridge in a Pear Tree'?
Something like:
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
A left back called Clichy.
On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me
(then what ever the proper lyrics are, followed by)
And a left back called Clichy!!
(continue through all 12 gifts)
Could also use 'A Super Gael Clichy' as an alternative last line instead of left back, although I probably just prefer the above.
You get the idea though!! What do you think? Now be honest with me!!

I like it, but us Gooners are shit at maintaining songs. We can only just about manage two rounds of 'By far the greatest team the world has ever seen', so maintaining that whole song may be a problem. Maybe one for away games.Eboue Can't Defend wrote:Just off the top of my head, how about a version of 'Partridge in a Pear Tree'?

'Super Gael Clichy' seems more likely. It fits the rhythm of the song perfectly and the lad is definitely super. I'd back that idea up.
LOL that's quality, possibly the anthem?gooner.ed wrote:i met up with a couple of the redaction guys yesterday, and one of the ideas that we developed was to put new chants for our players on youtube - it's such a great medium. think what's needed are...

I was thinking the same thing a while ago after seeing a similar mickey thing. Why not sing old and new chants and then post them up on youtube with the words like this > http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/archived ... 4-1200.htm where you can see the lyrics and also click the audio to hear it or windows audio to see the fans singing it.

Tony,
The idea is that it should increase in volume as we go through the different gifts, ala the Cantona version sung by Man Utd fans, so that by the last one, we're practically screaming it.
Now imagine a few thousand doing it! Impressive or what?
As for the two endings choice, as far as I could tell - and believe it or not I have done a bit of song writing in the past - both versions scan perfectly:
A left-back called Cli-chy
A Su-per Gael Cli-chy
Although to be fair, Su-per Gael Cli-chy also works without the A, so it's just down to preference.
Could also finish with shouts of 'The Arsenal' (clap, clap, clap), 'The Arsenal' (clap, clap, clap) at the end of the song.

Sod it, I'd give it a go. If I hear someone at the Grove singing a song about (mainly) Gael Clichy to the tune of a Christmas song in the middle of August, I'll be sure to join in!Eboue Can't Defend wrote:Tony,

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing...Eboue Can't Defend wrote:I'm flattered that you like it T.S. and are willing to give it a go!![]()
Just need someone in the Red Action/North Bank part of the ground to start the singing. If I do it from where I sit, I'll probably just get funny looks (although that's nothing new to me!)!!![]()
