It's fitting that a man who so interested in self-promotion and image should find his perfect partner. Rather than wish this ridiculous individual anything, I would rather celebrate great TEAM performances. Remember, this is what football is about - THE TEAM.
Something that summons all the great emotions in football - anger, frustration, encouragement, exhiliration....2001 Villa at home 3-2. 2-0 down at half-time. We threw the lot at the them in the second half, raining, great football, Henry getting up the ref's nose, last minute winner, great effort, crowd fuckin excellent...the lot.
Anti-Beckham thread - The TEAM is everything
Beckham is a team player, he always works hard and during the 3-0 defeat against Barca, he sat in front of defence, doing more then anyone to keep the score down to 3-0. Just becuase he takes advantage of his good looks and star quality to help a struggling league become bigger, no reason to be so hateful
The 3-2 game against Aston Villa was fun, greatcomeback and team spirit.

Beckham's move to his team in America has nothing to do with the team he is playing for - that is my point. And superstar status takes precedent over team players - hence the infatuation with individual records (Barry Bonds said it woudl be nice..nice!!..to win a championship after 18 years.)Magic Hat wrote:Beckham is a team player, he always works hard and during the 3-0 defeat against Barca, he sat in front of defence, doing more then anyone to keep the score down to 3-0. Beackham used to be a team player, but is now an over-indulged parody of himself. He had at leat 3 years left and if he thinks has anything to offer in football, it would have been with a top club.
The Americans don't want football and never will - so why this envangelical zeal to give it to them? They are interested in marketing possibilities, hence our potential sell-out next year, and that on manu and scousers.
He had said for years he wanted to play in America and since his career at Real and England seemed over, while not being too old to be a faded force, he had to consider his options. He would never return to face Man U so his options were limited and this seemed an ideal time. He will work hard for La Galaxy, he will keep doing work for charity, I think the league will try to exploit him, Beckham may not be the brightest but his work ethic is great.
As for why the zeal, a feeling that the market can be cracked after the Cosmos days, an increased market in American and belief youngsters can be turned to "soccer"?
