Villa v Chavs: What result would you prefer?

Post by I Hate Hleb »

Assuming we pick up the 3pts on Saturday (I know, something we can't do with too much confidence), which result do you want or think would be best for our hopes of a top 4 finish?

A Villa victory keeps them 7pts ahead of us, but leaves Chelsea within touching distance and only 2pts in front; A chelsea win puts them 1pt ahead of Villa, who would be only 4pts ahead of us; and a draw means we're 3pts behind the Chavs and 5 behind Villa.

I think a draw would probably be best and leave both of our rivals vulnerable if we put a good run together.

Well while the draw may seem like the best result, and i would certainly take it, you have to look at the bigger picture. Do you REALLY believe a team as strong as Chelsea arent going to improve form? I believe they will. I also believe Villa are the weakest team of the top 5 so I do think they will fall off. If they were to sustain an injury to Abby or Young or Barry they would fall off. I for THE ONE TIME in my life will be rooting for Chelsea to win. We need Villa to lose all possible points from now on.

I have been dwelling on this dilemma for the past fortnight and I am still no nearer to deciding what result I want :? I think if hiddink hadnt taken over chavski then a villa win may have been better for us but am not so sure now. At the same time if villa take a hiding again then it might shake their belief somewhat especially seeing as this is new territory for them. I had given up on catching villa to be honest so that only makes me more confused  Fcuk it I'll vote for the draw 8)

I am taking a Swiss stance, being neutral  Both a Chelsea and an Aston Villa win are as bad as each other to say the truth :( We better win at the weekend as we can't afford to fall behind any more.

Wrong... we are ;)

Hard decision.... Villa win, they're miles ahead of us, we don't play them so can't directly impact their end to the season. They may drop off, they may not. Chelsea win, i think we have no chance of catching them... they've got a new manager and the inevitable "dead cat bounce", Essien is back in training etc.

A draw keeps things nice and tight.... Villa will potentially be 5 points ahead of us (with a less than simple run in their next few games), Chelsea would be 3 points ahead of us (plus we play them at home).

The most important thing is we keep winning between now and the end of the season. We've got 13 league games left, I reckon we need a minimum of 30 points to assure ourselves of CL football. 70 points is usually the minimum required, but it'll be more like 75 because there are 6 teams (including Everton) who still harbour ambitions of finishing in the top four.

How strange that 1 -6 are thinking of Europe, 7 - 20 are thinking of relegation

Want a Chelsea win.
Think they have had their "dip" and a win by them might just cause Villa, who have yet to have a sustained drop in form, to stumble a bit.

I want a draw, or a Chelsea win.

I think we can catch Villa, but I really can't see us finishing above Chelsea.

1. Yankee is spot on. Let's not lie to ourselves, Chelsea will steam roller everybody again soon enough, and probably finish 2nd.

2. Villa are not a better side than us, fact. Yeah the league table doesn't lie and they done us 2-0 but take a look at our real starting line up and check out theirs and you'll see the difference. Our shit replacement midfield and lack of a DM has cost us whilst Villa have done very well to get where they are. But I think they'll start dropping points now so we have a chance. Just watch.

I think a Chavs win - I think Villa are more likely to not last the pace and with upcoming home games against Sunderland and Fulham we could really put the heat on them with a couple of wins.

"Swiss stance"?? Is that a sexual term? Like an "English Buggering"?

Chav win serves us better. We may be able to catch villa but the chavs will be more dificult to catch...

A draw would definitely be the best thing but can only see Cska West London win this game. With Hiddink they are gonna be the only team to challange ManU for the title until the end. It's still just a question of time until Villa start struggling.
