UEFA CUP FOOTBALL A DISTRACTION

Post by goonersid »

Now that it is obvious that we won't make the clge spot for next season, I would prefer that we didn't make the uefa cup either, and if we do that we bow out at the first hurdle. Why? We wouldn't win the damn thing any way and a run in this competition will involve as many games as the clge, when we will need to be concentrating on securing clge for the following season.

You aren't half acting like a wet blanket, Sid!

It's not inevitable that we won't make the CL... Villa are 6 points ahead with 12 games to play (36 points available) - hardly mission impossible, is it?!

And anyway, if we fail then so be it... bring on the UEFA Cup! new venues, new experience and a chance to win a European trophy. Sounds awful

Que Sera, Sera you miserable sod!!

Take it seriously. Bayern, Zenit, Liverpool AC Milan have in recent years, hardly rubbish teams are they? Success in a cup would boost the players, give them experience at winning things and a trophy is a trophy. Yes the league is far more important but we should go to win this

Villa still need to go to Liverpool, Man United, Man City, Bolton and Fulham, all difficult games. If they lose one then they could capitualte.
We still have Chelsea at home and Liverpool & Man United away. Aside from these three games the rest of our fixtures are easy. ( )
Keep the faith lads. :barscarf:

Exactly right. It would actually be good for our youngsters to have 2 tournaments to play in, one against domestic clubs and one against Europeans. If they discount the prices like the Carling Cup it could be quite good fun watching our u-18s against the second tier European clubs. There's enough decent teams in it to offer them a real test. Look at past winners - they nearly always go on to play in the CL e.g. Sevilla, Zenit, Porto

Shouldn't those precious UEFA Cup games be included in season ticket? After all supporters paying £ 1000+ should get value for money...

:? "Villa are a better side than us" do you honestly believe that. Our full strength team against theirs?

I dont think he means our full team, but we never have our full team and probably wont for more than a few games this season. So really yeah they have a better team.

Wenger's famous quote......the league table doesnt lie so does that answer your question ?

I stated last week that I wouldnt want to enter a mickey mouse uefa/europa cup if as expected we dont finish top 4 and I stand by that
