Wenger's famous quote......the league table doesnt lie so does that answer your question ?
I stated last week that I wouldnt want to enter a mickey mouse uefa/europa cup if as expected we dont finish top 4 and I stand by that

Well he plays the likes of Harewood, Reo-Coker, Zat Knight, Gardner and Osbourne when forced to do so by injuries or when buys doesn't come off. He doesn't even have a leftback at the moment with his refusal to use ShoreyDERRY GOONER wrote:tell me this, and tell me no more. would martin o,neil, play the likes of, eboue, song, denilson, bendtner, almunuia, in his villa team???/ like fuck he would. villa are a better side than us, full stop. We come 5th, qualify for the EUROPA, so what? Look at the positives.
People on here are moaning all the time about the prawn sandwich brigade & not being able to get tickets. Well this will flush out the 2004 bandwagon jumpers once & for all & allow you "true fans" to go wont it? This should result in a better atmosphere.
Plus AW will play the kids in that cup which would be a great learning curve & free up playing time for the first team, allowing them to concentrate on the league.
People seem to think that a year without CL will be a disaster. Why not see it as a kick up the backside that could benefit us long term?
Weve been very lucky to have had so many CL games over the years & despite what people think we dont have a God given right. Liverpool have failed to qualify in the past as have Bayern Munich (who are the Man UTD of Germany), Barcelona, Valencia & many others.
Yes its a great competition & we know the financial side of things, but so many "big" teams that have failed to qualify have then made big changes to make sure it was a one off.

For starters none of these other big clubs have a problem holding onto their best players if they dont want them to leave while clearly the last few seasons suggest that we do. If we cant hold onto our best players and cant afford to bring in quality repacements while we are in champs league and gaining £20m-£30m in the process then how do you think we will progress when we are out of it ? Really some people have such a simplistic view of life it amazes me

And some people are so negative it amazes me augie. I'll stick to being simple (chooses not to roll eyes).augie wrote:Nice_Guy wrote:We come 5th, qualify for the EUROPA, so what? Look at the positives.

Well actually no donaldo. If you see my posts on that discussion you will see I would choose 4th.donaldo wrote:Augie
Its the same people who think winning the FA cup is a good season even if we finish outside the top 4
My point is that finishing 5th isnt the end of the world. Im a glass half full kind of person which you need at the moment with this Club.
Nice guy, I never said that you were simple on a personal level but I did say that your views are simplistic which I 100% stand by. Failure to qualify for the champs league has a shit load of knock on effects that would probably set us back more than just 1 year. History is littered with teams that were on top and thought they would stay forever only to slide into near obscurity and while I do see our situation to be quite that bad I still cannot fathom how some appear to think it be impossible that we will not fall back into an "everton type of team".....aiming to make europe every season and hoping to win a cup but never good enough to win a league

As augie says if we havent go any money to buy quality players now what are we going to do with a shortfall of £40m
And anyone who really believes Cesc and RVP will be here if we are not in the CL is mad
I will be very interested to see if the club is dumb enough to put EUFA cup games on the ST.Thursday night football dont get me started
Well said, some on here think it's just a matter of turning out to win the uefa cup, and regain a top 4 spot as a matter of course. The effects will be far reaching and worse I fear than even you dare to contemplate.augie wrote:Nice guy, I never said that you were simple on a personal level but I did say that your views are simplistic which I 100% stand by. Yeah this was discussed on Sat after the game. You play about 30 odd games in the EUROPA league, be interesting to see what they charge for it or if they increase the number of cup games (highly unlikely I know)donaldo wrote:Nice_Guy wrote:Well actually no donaldo. sid, donaldo & augie I do understand what you are saying & dont think for 1 second that I am convinced that everything is rosy. If we come 5th, Adebayor, RVP & Gallas will be first out & you have to fear about Cesc & co. as well. Very easy to manouevre a transfer when your reason is "I only have short career & need to be playing at the highest level".
My point is that it MAY not be as bad as you all fear. I am of the belief that we would rise again after a blow such as coming 5th as opposed to falling apart, but thats just my belief. Hell, I could be completely wrong & we become a laughing stock but Im of the belief that we will remain in Europes elite, even if we didnt qualify for the CL 1 year which incidentally hasnt yet happened.
Im TRYING to keep the faith is all

I agree.donaldo wrote:if we do fail to get in the CL and end up in the European beer cup,i would play the kids like we do in the Carling cup because that is all its worth
Winning the UEFA Cup we would only make about £5.%M for the whole competition, which is less than we would get for finishing bottom of a Champs League group!
If we are in UEFA/Europa League next season, then we must put all our energies into getting fourth in the league, and use only kids in the European and Carling Competitions.
