Stewards at the youth game

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Our stewards are starting to behave like our police force. Welcome to the nanny state

i was in block 13
the kids in block 11 & 12 did create a great atmosphere
it wasn't the singing or the standing that caused the problems - but the songs with swearing in them
there were lots of very young children there last night

the stewards did recieve a lot of complaints from parents about the language, i saw one mum get really angry, telling the steward to do something about it (they did also get told by a lot of people to leave the kids who were signing alone)

at half time the stewards warned the signing section to be careful with the swearing - they were not told to sit down or stop singing. they were warned if they carried on swearing they would be ejected

they continued in the second half to sing songs with swearing eg what do ya think of..., harry rednaps mother, 1 man went to bed

maybe young kids shouldn't go to football games
or
maybe if they do go, they should have to suffer the consequences of songs with excessive swearing
or
maybe fans can be considerate of the other people around them

there were lots of songs that cpuld have been sung last night that wouldn't have offended anybody

it's in the ground regulations for every football stadium
"the use of threatening behaviour, foul or abusive language is strictly forbidden & will result in arrest &/or ejection"

stewards will pick out who they believe to be the ringleaders

it's harsh you got ejected - but you were warned - so you've only got yourself to blame!!

Pathetic.

Like it or not, football is not the opera. It's a passionate game, if you manage to prevent a crowd of any size swearing then congratulations, you have killed any hope of an atmosphere.

Are your kids too young to listen to songs with swearing in them without copying the "naughty" words? Then it's your fault - your kid is too indisciplined to know not to say bad words (I knew the word "shit" when I was about 5, but knew I'd be killed if I ever said it).

One thing which really fucking pisses me off is the counter argument to football atmosphere - standing and singing has never killed anyone* but people who oppose it are killing football.

* really.

I went to my first game when I was 8 and distinctly remember the swearing now from all the adults around me, I thought it was awesome.

If you don't want you kid to hear it, don't take them.

Swearing for fucks sake, how pathetic, you would think they were handing out free heroin and guns. If a kid can't here a bit of swearing then its going to live a very sheltered life. Why can't people just leave supporting football to football supporters rather than trying to change the way it has always been.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

pathetic

of course as parents we all know our kids don't shout and swear out in the street or in the school yard

arsenal and the stewards missed out on a big opportunity by charging too much and been over zealous to those that were there and could miss out on a whole new generation of gooners who have games like this as the only ones they can really afford to go too :banghead:

fair enough, however, i dont see block 6 at a regular game all getting kicked out for startin songs with swearin in it, so why kick out the kids?

if some people are so stupid they dont think theres gonna be some abusive language at a game of football then its there own silly fault for going.

Don't see to many away fans getting ejected either by Stewards, obviously they only fancy themselves against easy targets.

have a great night at the final, dom
like i said the atmosphere you lot created was great - fair play to you all :barscarf:
i just wanted to point out that it was the swearing & not the standing or signing that caused the problems
it was the number of very young children (lots in there under 8 years old)
the fact that it was only one section of the crowd signing made it easy for stewards to target you

i agree that if parents take young kids to a football match they should expect to hear swearing - but i did see an number complain to the stewards (i don't have kids & don't have any problem with the swearing myself)

enjoy the final, enjoy the signing, looking forward the the atmosphere you create, im sure a lot more people will head to blocks 11 & 12 pre-kick off & during the match & give the stewards a great deal more work to do
(just don't get yourself kicked out again)

have a great night!!!

I was in block 11, fantastic vocal support from our yoof! I was so pleased I had chosen that area.

I was 8 when I went to my first football game and there was far more swearing then than now. I got told to remember to only use words like that at football. Lets face it I knew all the words from in the playground anyway. Note to parents...your kids will know the words, they will more than likely be using them.

Its a football game for fucks sake. If only our main support was as exuberant.
