Bradford fire

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Absolutely shocking whenever I see it.

I had to watch it during fire safety training back at highbury and couldn't believe what I was seeing. There is a lot more footage than that video, all of it absolutely terrible.

RIP to all those good people
I don't think it's that the Bradford City anniversary didn't get the publicity it deserved, it's simply that Hillsborough will continue to be high profile because the media loves Liverpool and scousers are always on an emotional trip whatever they do. There have been plenty of other disasters which seem to get overlooked now (Ibrox, Herald of Free Enterprise, Kings X etc etc). 5 live broadcast the memorial service live from Anfield.

Men women and children perished in the Bethnal Green underground disaster during WW2 - the greatest single loss of civilian life in Britain - yet survivors still haven't got enough money to get a proper memorial put up.

The media in this country have a lot to answer for.

Is it not more a case of that no-one in a position of authority could be held in anyway responsible?? People seem to make more of an issue of such events if they deem someone or some people in a professional capacity could have prevented it.

I think we were away to Villa that day (or somewhere else in the Midlands). We only knew about it when the cab driver told us after arriving back at Euston. It was very sobering news having just come from a match.

RIP. Those poor souls, an awful way to die. That was a terrible and tragic day. As was Hillsborough - just because some mousers have acted like idiots since shouldn't denigrate the tragedy of the 96 deaths...

awful, just awful :(

maybe next year when it is the 25th anniversary there will be more coverage, the media seem to like the 'neater' times like this, 25, 30, 50 etc. rather than 24. still though, criminally underreported. it is just shocking.

Have seen this video as part of fire safety training at work. Over 20 of the people who perished that day followed the correct evacuation route to go out through the exit gates by the turnstiles. They were locked and got trapped in the concourse.

How someone wasn't held accountable is staggering really.

Have to say that it really is quite shocking that it has passed almost unmentioned. I can recall the gruesome TV pictures even now - :(

Some things are just burried by time.

May 4th was the 60th anniversary of Superga in Italy but away from the Torino diehards few seemed to stop and pause. And that was just a fabulous team. Italy's answer to Arsenal's 1930s team. With Valentino Mazola leading them. :(

The Bradford tragedy is, I think, the only one where the supporters can not be held to blame, in any way.

Hillsborough, Ibrox, Heysell and even the one in1946 can be blamed (to some degree) on stupid behaviour.

And also the club itself acts with a perfect dignity, respecting the memories of those passed on. Unlike others who choose to adopt a victim mentality........
Well said Steve O.

But didn't someone drop a fag/cigar whatever to cause the fire?
