Some have half full cups, some have half empty I guess.

We did what we had to do against a terrible Everton side. I don't really see the point in going into indept analysis after only one game. The new guy had a good debut, hopefully he can do that consistantly, everybody else pretty much did what you would expexct of a team with designs on winning the Premiership. Good start but as Shankly(?) once said it's a marathon not a sprint.

Of course it won't change Wengers mind on transfers - he wasn't planning to buy anyone anyway!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Thats exactly the point I was about to make to g88ner - most of us are worried that wenger doesnt want to sign anybody and that saturdays result will only convince him (again  ) that he is right (and lord and master of all he surveys  ). The problem is that after 12 seasons you always feel that wenger never really wants to sign anybody - of course this isnt the case but he is such a reluctant spender you cant help but think it

Oh, I don't think it takes much to convince Wenger that he's right; a 0-0 would probably have done it, never mind 6-1!

I'd like to think that the Everton game hasn't changed anything. He seems to spend a lot of time looking at players, and so I would imagine he would still try and sign Chamakh, or that mythical holding player, if the opportunity came (at the right, ridiculously low, price of course! ) regardless of perfomances/results before the window shuts.

Anyway, I suppose the time for this conversation is September 1st, or whenever the window shuts, because I'm still expecting (or should that be hoping?!) that we sign a player, or 2 (I'm dreaming now!), before then.

My main point really was that this "blessing in disguise" theory about losing at Goodison doesn't hold water for me, as we've had bad results before, and still been disappointed with our transfer activity.

i think i do mention it provided a boost to confidence, however the point re signings, may not change wengers mind completely, but it might reaffirm a wavering view he may have had.

Who knows.

I Personally think it could have that effect, you don't.

Regardless i do think AW must be shortsighted and stubborn, how can he not see what the whole football world knows, that the team has been crying out for a decent DM and centre back for a few seasons. Or perhaps you dont beleive thats the case and hasnt been a contributing factor to 4 trophyless seasons?

playing mantis, judging by the dm's we know he has tried to get (Alonso, Melo, Yay Toure, Inler) over the last year, I would imagine he is aware of the need

Are you really this stupid or are these posts tongue in cheek, we won one game, we played well, they didn't, things went well for us, we are all happy about that.
But don't be foolish enough to believe off the back of one game that we are on the brink of a treble or that we have no problems, it's only a few days since we got taken to the cleaners by Valencia, where most of those that played well yesterday were shite, yet you have forgotten that already.
Use your brain for once in your life and at the very least wait til we have played half a dozen games before you start making definitive judgements on how good we are and how good others are.
Didn't the beginning of last season teach you anything the OTT reaction to any decent performances or wins were generally followed by losses to some of the poorest teams in the prem, only time will tell if we are going to see the same again, in the meantime you should do your self a favour and stop the childish gloating because it's likely before even the month is out you'll have your nose rubbed in it.

Who said anything about winning trebles, going unbeaten or the impact this result will have in a 38 game season?

While I understand the way the "usueless players" went about their business must annoy you a bit as it might make you question your own beliefs about them you can not get away from the fact that they went to Everton, the 5th best team in the country and turned them over in such a fashion, no one is mentioning next week or last week, we are talking about this week.

No one here is getting carried away but the thoughtless few who are trying to talk down the way the individual match was won is baffling, it's a game by game basis, we are currently talking about gameweek one where Arsenal had to go to Everton, Liverpool had to go to Spurs, United had to entertain Birmingham and Chelsea Hull, 3 of those struggled to get into gear, one other didn't so the manner of the victory is impressive whether you want to admit it or not.

You are allowed to enjoy it once in a while.
You just don't get it do you, no one on here hasn't had good things to say about the win on Saturday, we are all happy about it, only in your childlike mind is anyone annoyed by it.
Contrary to some of us being annoyed by the win, you seem more interested in trying to score points against those who disagree with you than happy about the win, sadly i'll bet thats all you could think about while you were watching the game, if you weren't so blinded by this childishness you would have noticed that pretty much everyone has had good things to say about the performance, the problem is your so far gone you only see what you want to see.

Most of our opinions have been built on what we have seen over 50 + games and some of us are intelligent enough to take the weekends result as what it was, one good result and good performance and enjoy it for that and hope it continues, not assume it's going to define the rest of the season or wipe out everything we have seen previously, we've seen this far too many times to get carried away yet.
Only an idiot or someone with a very short memory would come out with some of the nonsense you have been writing over the last couple of days based on one game, you should take a little bit of your own advice and enjoy the win as opposed to being overwhelmed with the need to try and prove people whose opinions are built on numerous games not one, wrong .
