Foreign or home grown

Post by corkbarry »

I've always thought that a player from my own country gave a extra dimension to my support, after all the majority of irish supporters of a certain age followed the Arsenal because of the Irish players in the team at the time.

ask yourself this Question Cesc Fabregas for free or Michael Carrick for 18 mil. In a ideal world most Arsenal fans would prefer homegrown trouble is homegrown is not affordable.

Doesn't matter to me one bit. When they pull on an Arsenal shirt they have no country connection to me, they are Arsenal and that's it.
I'd say most people think like you do Barry, going by how much the crowd gets behind young Theo, much more so than any other player.

i grew up with arsenal having up to 7 irish men in there team and that done so much to make arsenal have such a big gooner support over here but now days its different,, if i felt they were good enough for us then ok but if not then i dont care where our players come from as long as they are as proud as us to wear the famous shirt

You may need to rephrase your question and poll Barry!

IHH is bound to see this as a post about the pro's and con's of home grown or imported gear and befoe you know it The Sweeney will be knocking on your door asking what you know!

I DEFINATELY PREFER IMPORTED!! 8) ALTHOUGH YOU GET THE OCCASIONAL ABOVE AVERAGE ENGLISH ONE, MOST OF THE HOMEGROWN IS WELL OVER-RATED AND NOT GUARANTEED TO BE GOOD ENOUGH TO GET THE JOB DONE!! :x

AS FOR FOOTBALL PLAYERS....

So your analysis is that you are happy to get Theo Walcott but usually you would take an Overmaes over a Ray Parlour?

I'm not even English anyway...

So no, it doesn't matter to me whether we have English players or not.

With the Premier League being the best club league in the world in my opinion then you have to have the best players in the world in your team to be successful. Adding to that - with the over inflated price of English footballers then i think this is a no brainer. Arsene Wenger likes a particular style of football and seems to prefer players who are mostly unknown in this country who have less pressure on their shoulders and can adapt in our team.

I'd say there is only a couple of English players who could fit or have the quality to play in our team. We're about having the best club players from around the world not just England.

Over the last two days, we have had 4 of our players playing for England teams. Liverpool by the way managed 1 player who couldn't get on the bench.

If they are good enough, they can be Martian for all I care, until the Fa sorts out how bad our youth system is as a country, I don't see many Englishmen playing at Arsenal

Are we talking about forum posters here?

I think both foreign and home-grown make a great contribution. Just think what quotas would do here

And all of the Irish voices on here just encourages more to come and join...just like the Arsenal of the 70's corkbarry 8)

As long as they're good enough, who cares. The best English midfielder is Gerrard and I'd have loved to have seen him in an Arsenal shirt but would we swap Fabregas for him? The only thing that matters to me is the Arsenal shirt, not the nationality of the wearer.
