Alkmaar away

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Alkmaar away

Post by jaymitch81 »

Anyone going?

I imagine Amsterdam is going to be expensive to fly into. Anyone reccommend a cheaper travel option? (Not on a donkey or anything)

There are some hotels in Alkmaar list on www.matchotels.com We have booked the best wester hotel for the night.

eurostar to brussels and then change over to the mainland rail network (which is very good and cheap). done it before and was in the dam within 4 hrs. not so bad considering flying normally involves a bit of travel to and from the airports plus check in times...

Get the boat train from Liverpool Street. Takes you to Harwich, boat to Netherlands, train to Amsterdam Centraal.

Its about 2-2 1/2 hours. Also the airport is quite a long way out of town with a really crappy bus service. Other than that fine. :D

yup indeed Herbert, gooners will be based/staying Amsterdam, as for travel, Newcastle went to Alkmaar 2 seasons ago, i had a link for their travel advice for fans, they had a coach for fans from Alkmaar stadium after game to Amsterdam Central. i have 2 mates who have gone from Eindhoven to Amsterdam, wen we went to Psv, theres a coach from Eindhoven airport which takes to Amsterdam, as for hotels, anyone booked up yet? i found one, £50 2 single bed, in Amsterdam central, will book it soon.

It is bang in the middle of amsterdam right near the red light district  , the coffee shops and is less than a 5 minute walk to amsterdam central station
