Arsenal big game groundhog day

Post by BournemouthRED »

Look at team sheet and think to ones self, that team aint good enough to win today. Count missing quality players, count sub standard players playing out of position. for example, a right back playing up front.

start game well and score, cue euphoria and a sense of belief.

just as you start to think this team has come of age and are on the cusp brilliance, fall apart and lose.

:banghead:

tbh not sure how to feel about today, we were unlucky but still didnt finish the game off. we must learn to go for the kill, heres hoping AW brings in a face or two. plus things will be more rosy when cesc, nasri, theo and super tom return :barscarf:

That's a good post. The trouble is that Wenger bangs on constantly about 'mental strength'. But that means taking a lead and holding onto it. It also means coming back from 1 - 2 down to win.

Did anyone really think that once we went behind it was anything other than a foregone conclusion we'd lose ?

This team does not possess resilliance/self belief/mental strength.

They are physically and emotionally lightweight.

In boxing terms, 'glass jawed' and 'rubber kneed'.

Sad :( But true.

Big games loses. Can you see a common thread?

CL Final 2006 Barcelona 1-0 up lost 2-1

Carling cup final Chelsea 1-0 up lost 2-1

Chelsea 2008 title run in 1-0 up lost 2-1

Man Utd 2008 title run in 1-0 up lost 2-1

Chelsea 2009 FA cup semi 1-0 up lost 2-1

Man Utd today 1-0 up lost 2-1

Why cant we hold on to a one goal lead?

We could have done if not for Almunia, his incompetence should not tar the side with the same brush.

The struggle to come back was more of a concern, seemed to lose all shape and only had one or two who looked capable of dragging us back in last ten minutes

We played very well, and I refuse to be overly critical of the team sheet, as we were missing Cesc, Nasri, Rosicky and Walcott.

I was delighted with the peformance. We looked comfortable, strong, solid, and dangerous.

Ok, the Almunia and Diaby show cost us the points, but these things happen. I saw enough today to feel positive about the future, so although I'm gutted and very frustrated, I'm not going to let the inevitable negativity on this forum that comes from every bad result get to me.

The team works very hard, and I find that much easier to get behind and support than the wishy washy crap from last season.

This team is clearly giving 100% and looks focused and driven, and that's all I ask. It's been a hugely positive start to the season, and 1 unlucky defeat doesn't change that for me... ManUre lost to burnley, and Liverpool lost to Villa... these things happen. Onwards to Citeh.... 8)

There is a Vieria, Henry, Adams, Keown myth that really does need displelling.

From 98-01 Man Utd won the title 3 years in a row with all those amazing players earning a crust here at Arsenal.

Did they bottle it or weren't good enough?

I can't imagine anyone here believes that.

Post of the day, fans have to get behind this side, we have a fantastic squad, and we can go a long long way in all competitions.

Why can't we extend a one goal lead and kill off any comeback?
