New Rule

Post by Swale_Gooner1985 »

No its not the new F.A rule that nobody is allowed to win at old trafford!

Its the one about the home grown players in the squad... as i understand it you have to have at least 8 home grown players over the age of 21 and the squad must be no bigger than 25, will that not leave us in a bit of trouble? it starts next season doesnt it?

Do we actually have any other than Walcott?

Actually, "home grown players" are players who had trained at least 3 years in English or Welsh Clubs before 21. That's what I understood.

The Premier League have introduced a home-grown player rule which will come into effect from next season, alongside a limit on squad sizes.

From the 2010/11 campaign, the 20 Premier League clubs have voted to introduce measures which will see all teams required to have eight home-grown players out of a squad of 25.

Chief executive Richard Scudamore confirmed the changes, with clubs only able to make alterations to their squads during the two transfer windows.

"As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown," Scudamore said.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system.

"Clubs will have to declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January."

Players who are aged under 21 are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

We have 15 already. Chavs and Scouser both have the mininum 8. Villa the most with 24.

The full squad (of 25) is submitted on the 31st Aug and again after the January transfer window closes.

This is same for most leagues around Europe.

Yep, fear not Swale - we are fine!

Plus the likes of Wilshire, Gibbs, Watt, Merida(?) who are all likely to be in the mix next year - no worries!

That does leave Chelsea in a pickle doesnt it? Although they have 452 players out on loan im sure i read they are not even allowed to bring them back?

also the squad can be more that 25, but the 16-21 age rule would apply to all players over the 25
