Are we now not allowed to say that we think he had a good game anymore? Do we have to qualify everything by "he had a good game, but it doesn't count because it was against Birmingham, Portsmouth, Spurs etc."?
I'm with you hadareud, but you did say Diaby was "excellent" which was a little over the top and bound to get a reaction from one or two people.

He played well though, so credit where it's due 8)

well I thought he was excellent yesterday.

That's not raving about him in general, just saying what I thought about him on the day.

I'm all too aware of his shortcomings, unfortunately.

Good as some of you might feel Diaby played, and I personally thought that - goal apart - he was just above average, he was still the least impressive of our midfield quartet.

There are still too many times when he either passes inaccurately, hangs on and then loses the ball unnecessarily, or just drifts out of the game, for my liking. :banghead:

Ironically, on the way to the match I said to my mate that the consistent run in the team Diaby's been getting - probably due to Denilson's injury and despite Abou's inconsistent performances thus far - could end up being the making of him. I put forward the idea that Diaby might now start performing better and finally begin living up to his undoubted potential. And he rewarded me with a goal and a slightly better performance. 8)

Yet that's all it was, a slightly better display than what he had been producing up to now. I think any praise above that is down to either an understandable desire to 'support' him - which is probably indicative of how poor he had previously played - or perhaps the first signs of myopia!!

That's fair enough hadareud but as g88ner said, there is a big difference between good and excellent, and you used both. And when you say someone is excellent, then that is a point for discussion.

In general, I am a confused :? person.

We, as a football society, seem now to look at stats such as goalscorers and automatically assume said players have played well  It goes without saying that I cannot agree with the idea that diaby was excellent yesterday and thought that IHH's analysis of diaby has been the most accurate so far in this thread. He continually lost possession down in front of me and I am beginning to wonder if it is now an accepted part of his game to the point that some fans dont even mention it anymore :? I will agree however that he did seem to work a bit harder yesterday but, as has been said already, he goes missing for way too many spells in a match.

The performances of AA23 & rosicky yesterday was a source of disappointment to me I have to say :( Any of the regular members on here will know that I think that these two players are absolutely class players and AA23 is, in my opinion at least, the only player in the last 20 years to come near the great Bergkamp for class, vision and ability. Too often yesterday though his 1st touch was poor and his corners were woeful although he did of course display his class with an outstanding finish for his goal. Rosicky I thought started the game really well but was totally awol for ages before being subbed although I suspect being subbed in every single game must be pissing the guy off.

Yesterday was a game that we were in complete control of before we conceded but after that goal we totally lost our shape and control of the game. When we needed somebody to pull a few heads together and take control back from an average brum side we had nobody and if some of you need a reason to understand why some of us believe the signing of PV4 would be a good thing then you should take a good look at the last hour of this game and maybe you will understand. To me it is the same old story with this Arsenal team........outstanding at times but when under pressure we lack leadership and presence. I would also like to suggest that our great centre back partnership actually look better going forward than they do when it comes down to actual defending

By the way gus and wayno, did ye actually make it in for the start of the game ? I was rushing towards the stadium around 7 minutes before kick off and seen the two lads rushing in the other direction - apt to piss some fans off with their late arrival I would suggest

Diaby didnt have a good game, but I would say that he didnt have a bad one which is strange for him as he is usually either brilliant or awful.

My own experience of the match was perfect: Omelette Brunch, Pint or 2 in the local, train up, 3-1 win, back home in time for X Factor and Cheryl :D
