REAL FAN! What exactly does that mean?
I read most of the posts on this site and regularly come across the expression 'Real Fan'. I'm interested to hear what level of support people expect before somebody can be called a real fan.
For the record, I'm a red member, I go whenever I can get tickets and whenever I can afford it. I consider myself a real fan having supported this club for thirty years. If I can't get there I search the internet for a streaming site so I can watch live. Failing that, on occasions, the radio commentary has to suffice.
I love my club with a passion! I cheer through the good times and believe me I've shed a tear or two during the bad times!
So, Am I a 'Real Fan'?
It would be interesting to know!

who cares what people think is a true fan and what isn't a true fan? You support Arsenal, that's good enough for me! I've been lucky to get to Emirates a few times this season, been away a few times too, doesn't make me anymore passionate than someone who's miles away and can only watch on TV/listen on the radio or check the match report in the paper the next day!
The ones who quote how many times they've been abroad to watch the team, or go to every match forget that circumstance says they can get there. I struggle to travel abroad due to finances, time and family commitments dictate when I can go or not. Having said that, I wish people would be a little more passionate at the match, especially at Emirates, but it would be very snobby- arrogant even, to comment on whether someone is a fan. We're all different and it's always nice to speak to fans outside the ground in the bars etc, because of those differences!

I take it you know all these anakin.
A true fan can be determined by how they feel in both the good times and the bad. I am lucky enough to go to most games. I say lucky because i used to be a junior gunner and only went to 2/3 games a season so i know how difficult it is to get tickets.
When things are going well a 'true fan' will be proud and sing the teams praises. when things are going badly a 'true fan' will be proud and sing the teams praises. I consider myself to be a true fan as i never let anyone say that Arsenal are anything other than great.
And yes i do know who signed 'The Iceman' the real (Official) name of Highbury and the 3rd highest scorer. However i don't really agree with staying to the end as a determination of being a fan. I have left early twice (of my own accord, once i was too young to say no to my dad and his mate) those games were both Champions League Deportivo and Chel$ki. On both occations i was gutted and couldn't face watching their fans going wild.
There are enough true fans to create a good atmosphere at the Grove so lets not worry about everyone else and keep singing. Even if its just you keep going and someone will join in. If not at least you know you were puttign in the effort.

I don't live in London...heck I don't even live in the UK. But I have supported the team through the good and bad times since I was 8. More than 30 years now and I have done my pilgrimage to Highbury...just waiting to bring my boys to the Emirates when I get the chance. Am I a real fan?
I would like to think so.
