January Transfer Speculation Thread

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

I love how after saying a few weeks ago that we would "definitely look to buy in January", the excuses are now rolling out by the truckload as to why we won't be buying anyone at all in the transfer window. :banghead:

- "We might not find anyone of real quality"
- "Football finances have never been worse"
- "Managers must be careful with money"

OK, i know we have stadium debt to pay off but how is it that the club with the world's highest ticket prices, lucrative worldwide merchandising income & recently announced "record profits" can't scrape a bit of cash together to buy a player or two (or even three/four would be nice :D ) :banghead:

"Moving to Emirates Stadium will allow us to compete with Europe's elite" What a crock of shit. We need strengthening in at least 4 areas to compete with Europe's elite & we're being fed a load of bollocks as to why it won't happen in January or the near future... :banghead: :banghead:

And that's why this thread should stay in the basement!!!! It's clear that Wenger - despite his words a few days ago - is very unlikely to make the signings the team and all of us fans are crying out for. :banghead: :banghead:

Doesn't every single season play out the same these days?

Starts out with cautious optimism following a disappointing finish to the previous season, followed by AW not buying anyone in the summer, or indeed on the transfer deadline day. However, he says "this is the season" and everyone forks out the cash for tickets.

We then go through the motions in the CL qualifiers and everyone assumes the guaranteed cash may be used for signings. It never is. By Nov/Dec, we're either out of the title race or riddled with injuries, meaning that AW has to buy in the transfer window. Closer to the time, he backtracks by stating "I will only buy if the right players are available". They never are.

We then stumble out of the FA Cup and CL in due course, before having yet another 'successful' season by finishing fourth. Unrest amongst fans, calling for Wenger's head. He doesn't leave.

Ad finitum.

Don't know why everyone gets excited at transfer windows, Wenger's record on signing players he really needs is piss poor over the last 5 years or so. It won't happen and the bullshit will keep on coming

Dutch star snubs January move to Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has suffered a major setback after Dutch superstar Rafael van der Vaart revealed he will snub any move to the Premier League in January.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with a £6million move for the Real Madrid midfielder in January as Wenger looks to add more experience to his young squad.

Van der Vaart has struggled to command a regular first-team place at the Bernabeu and fell even further down the pecking order following the arrival of Kaka during the summer.

The Dutch international revealed at the start of the season that he would love a move into the Premier League and the north London club were hoping to clinch his signature at the start of January.

But with Kaka ruled out of action with with a groin injury, Van der Vaart has managed to break into the first-team and says he is happy to remain at Real Madrid for the rest of the season and will then consider his long-term future.

Van der Vaart said: "My intention is to finish the season here and see out the contract that I have with Real Madrid.

"I am very happy and believe I am playing very well at the moment."
