The Betting Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Not a bookie. At one point that dude owed huge sums to both Ladbrokes and Willy Hills.

He was never a bookie but as a gambler he owed huge figures to bookies.

My friend Stan has a pitch at Epsom and at Newmarket. One day McCririck was going up to all the bookies stalls live on TV and asking bookies why they didn't give better odds as part of some fair play to punters crusade.

He asked my mate Stan when was he going to give a better deal to punters and Stan simply replied "as soon as you pay back the hundreds of thousands you owe us bookies"!

McCririck started to argue with Stan live on telly about this and Stan finally said "how can you class yourself as a punter John when you can't put a bet on anywhere anymore?".

Channel 4 then switched to the studio and McCririck off air started to tell Stan he was going to lose his pitch etc.

Stupid prick!

Other than my appetite being satisfied, it was a real let down.

Feckin hell Demzy. Mind me asking how?
Basically, i look at whos playing who on match day, then i compare the home teams form at home, and the away teams form when they play away and make my judgement at whos gonna win or if it will be a draw.

My accum for weekend is :

Birmingham win
Bolton win
Bury draw
Roscommon win (in Gaelic football for all you non-paddys!!)

Might also do a small accum with above plus Glenn Whelan score anytime for Stoke.

Be lucky folks !!!

Havent looked at any odds but ill be betting on the following this weekend:

Bobby Zamora to score at any time against spuds.

Chelsea to concede a penalty.

Portsmouth to beat birmingham.

Arsenal to score 3 or more.

And if the bookies will take it Neil Warnock to moan about the referee after QPR's game.

but how many losing bets have you had - before you hit a winner - it's like these turds who say i've won a tenner on the lottery, but don't realise they have spent £500 over the last year - to win a manky tenner

A turd... really? Oh dear.

I do an average of €5 a week on one euro long odds footy bets. Usually get 2 or 3 a year come in (at best) but they cover my expenditure most years. So I spend about €250 a year but have averaged between €400 and €600 a year in returns - except two years ago when not one came in.

I also do the odd low odds "cert" bet which usually come in. So, all in I'm well up on it. Where I tend to lose money is (funnily enough) doing the bloody lotto.

But your whining ( ) negative attitude misses two points really voodoo doll man ( ); firstly you can't win if you ain't in and while someone may faff away 500 on the lotto that won't matter if they win 100000 or a million will it?

Secondly there's the fun issue. You've never cheered on a chav penalty like I did last Saturday or enjoyed a boring 1-0 between stoke and Bolton knowing it brings in your accumulator.

So take a day off from sticking pins in dolls, from hero worshipping a dead peado and maybe lighten the fuck up and have some fun!! :-P

my old mum has been doing the lottery since it started, and probably could of afford to go on a world cruise and buy a new car if she had bung her pounds in a jar instead of this shite lottery

good luck with your 5 euro's a week bet - hopefully this time next year you will be a millionaire

I presume this is a windup. Either that or you got badly scalded by a bookie at some stage.... Why have you a problem with grown people having a flutter with their own money ?

Like me saying everyone that goes out and has a few pints is an eejit for spending their money on something that makes them smile too much, laugh too much, piss too much, eat too much on the way home and feel shit the next day....but i wont as it not my place to judge what people do with their own money and are responsible about it.

I, like DB, enjoy a flutter most weekends and either through luck or good judgement make it pay - albeit a small return most times - but then i only punt small. The craic is not just in the winnings, but in the interest that it gives me in many different games or sports.

In the words of DB10........ lighten the fuck up ........
