In defence of Arsene

In defence of Arsene

Post by Nos89 »

This probably ain't gonna be too popular today but after seeing Arsene's post match interview on MOTD 2 he looked virtually broken. I can't recall the last time I saw Arsene do a post match interview without his tie and jacket on and be so downbeat.

For me that shows he's hurting more than any of us have even bothered to consider. I sit behind the home dugout area and I have seen just how frustrated he gets with the team. Yes he is the man that can change things but as we know financially his hands have been tied.

We should show our support and respect towards the man, not the vitriolic words that I read on this forum towards our manager. After all we're out of the title race by the 35th game of 38, not by the 15th game.

I can see where you are coming from.

But the fact is that these are his players. He's paid £5 million a year to do his job. Nice work if you can get it. If he was at any comparable Club in world football, he would have been turfed out by now.

Nothing, next season will, be 6 years and counting without a trophy. You have to go back to the 1920s to find an Arsenal Manager who has a similar record.

I am not calling for him to go. I am not going to insult him.

But next season is - in my opinion - his final chance. If he fails to act in the coming transfer window, he should leave. He won't But he should and he will lose a significant portion of the Fan base is he carries on.

So the 'defence of Arsene' boils down to taking pity on him 'because he looked downbeat'? :?

But he'd taken his jacket & tie off & everything, Hlebby!

In all seriousness, I don’t doubt he’s hurting, I’ve definitely seen his frustration on the touchline especially over the last 2 years or so, and I’ve never bought into the idea that our approach over the last 5 years or so has all been down to some “vanity projectâ€

Erm, no, actually.
We won bugger-all in the 1960s.
We won nothing from 1971 until 1979.
Then we won nothing again till 1987.
I remember most of these barren years very well.

Anyone who thinks we automatically deserve a trophy every five years just doesn't get it.
That's why the success under GG and AW has been so delicious.
But I don't expect jcls to understand.

Yup same thought here. We are not a winning club like Utd before AW's arrival!

But don't shot me yet as I still think that AW should go NOW. Hope that he will accept an offer to Madrid proactively. I am an admirer of AW to be honest. Enough is enough! I think we could win the league if we buy in 2 players in Jan!

Again, I don't and will never accept any gooners saying "Arsene out" or "you are *word censored*". I think that's too much.

I don't mind to see AW to finish his contract next season only if the following things happen:
1) Come and tell us that money was not available in the last few yrs
2) Sign 3-4 experienced players esp a good goal keeper
3) Keep our key players like Cesc (and Arshavin, sorry I do rate him high), and get rid of those *word censored* like AL and Denilson

I must say that we all agree that we finish the league much better than we think. But why we are so angry at AW becos this could really be our season if we have signed 2 players at least!

Actually - we were and have been a winning Club since the 1930s. I am not trying to get into a bun fight on this but the point our New Zealand friend failed to grasp, needs restating.

You have to go back to the 1920s - if then - to find an Arsenal Manager who has gone 6 years, as it will be next season, without winning a trophy. Yes we have gone 6 years and more without winning things but not with the same Manager in charge.

We have won trophies and specifically Titles not just League Cups, in every decade since the 1930s, bar the 1960s. Utd went 26 years without winning the title and Liverpool are looking at 20 years. Chelsea went 50 years and Spurs are looking at that.

Our biggest gap since the 30s is 18 years.

We haven't 'dominated' since the 30s but we have been consistent winners over an 80 year period, the 1960s apart. That's a pretty fine record.
