What would appease you for letting Cesc leave the club?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I only have heard him saying that he is an Arsenal player and that he still has a contract. All the rest we never heard him say but are words put in his mouth by the media.

However I don't think he'd be ahead of Xavi or Iniesta, so I think he'll be around for a couple of seasons yet.

At the moment it's Balague writing in AS - I think it was Boomer who pointed out that neither were particularly credible sources.

Until I see a shot of Cesc holding a Barcelona shirt I think it's best to ignore the speculation.
He will start games for them without a doubt.
Barca fans are already dreaming of a team that looks like this

Valdes
Alves - Pique - Puyol - Abidal
Busi - Xavi
Messi - Cesc - Iniesta
Villa

So dont kid yourself.

So where is Ibrahimovich going to play ?...Villa tends to play just off the striker, usually coming from the left side....So i think it's more likely the front three would be Messi from the right Ibra in the middle Villa from the left with xavi and iniesta behind them..

Off what striker? He is the main striker for Valencia :? Yes he can play on the left but so can Iniesta/Pedro.

Its well know thay Barca are not happy with Ibrah's input this season and with Henry gone, the arrival of Villa, the emergance Pedro and Bojan, they have too many players to accomodate. Hence the reason they are trying to get rid of Ibrah.

One this is certain, they will all get 30+games to play in.

To return to the original question: nothing would appease me. But this was going to happen and it seemed clear to me in his face during the 'lap of appreciation'.

And much as we shall all miss Cesc I have to sympathise for two main reasons:

1. As Ed says, how can Cesc continue to play with the untalented, non-trying members of our squad when Barcelona beckons?
2. Wenger has failed to buy a Vieira-style 'minder' to protect Fab from the thugs who are allowed to run riot in the Premiership. For Cesc's sake, do we want to see his career potentially ended by a 'mistimed tackle' from a Martin Taylor or Ryan Shawcross?

If he must go - as now looks increasingly likely - adios Cesc, we'll miss you, but thanks for the memories :( :( :(

I think he plays as the main striker for Valencia now out of necessity because they are light on the ground for quality strikers due to resources, or lack of them, but he was at his best when he plays off a more traditional centre forward as when Morientes was at Valencia and when he plays off Torres for Spain..

Who says they are trying to get rid of Ibra, personally i would never have bought him, but i would be shocked after spending so much on him if they didn't give him at least another season, he is just the type of player Villa would work well off.
From what i can see Villa is a replacement for Henry and on the whole Henry was played from the left, unless they were desperate for a central striker..

I'm aware that Barca like to rotate their large selection of midfield and attacking players, so they all get more than a few games and sometimes play slightly different positions to their norm. But you were suggesting that Cesc would slot straight in to what would be regarded as their strongest 11 and that most certainly is not nailed on.

Cesc is not a defensive midfielder, he can't play up front and he can't play wide, so he is going to be limited to playing in one of the two midfield slots behind the strikers which when fit are normally taken by Xavi, Iniesta or sometimes even Messi, with Busquets or even keita another option, at the moment Cesc would just be like them another option and whether he would get 20 games or 30 it's not going to be quite the same as running the show at Arsenal...and as long as xavi is around thats how it will be...

Barca have been linked with Fabregas, Villa and Torres today, seriously you may as well hand them the Champions League now!
Questions do remain about where they would all fit in the team so you would hope AW would look to get something out of the Fab deal - perhaps Yaya Toure as a DM?
If not get as much money as possible because the squad already needs a serious overhaul, with Fab gone in will need completely re-building.

If Cesc does really want to go we should take full advantage of Barca's generosity as Inter did last season..if Barca want him that badly then getting Yaya, Busquets and some cash for Cesc might be possible ..of course we'd probably settle for 25m to stick in the bank...

What makes you think them players want to play for us anyway? You're still back to having players playing for you who don't want to be there.

:? It's all hypothetical..

Although, Yaya has stated a number of times he would like to play for us, as for Busquets i have no idea who he would like to play for but you never know until you ask ... hypothetically he would fill the role that Cesc departs and Yaya would fill another need of ours..

I don't won't Cesc to go.

The sad fact is we know it's a case of 'when' and not 'if'.
Cesc made some comments about his future being settled before the World cup. This is also the same time frame AW is wishing to complete all his transfers.
Could Cesc be waiting to see what the summer brings for us?

As already mentioned this is a crucial summer for us. For Cesc and indeed for Wenger.
As you said there is one big sale each summer so

Sales will be

Cesc Summer 2010
Arshaving Summer 2011
RVP Summer 2012

Its all mapped out
I see you are going for 'Forsighter of the year'....or should that be 'years'
Can i win this award yet Boomer?

Do we really want YAYA that badly?? hasn't he been a sub for Barca for most of the season and Song kind of has the DM role covered, I'd be looking for more of a true CM as opposed to a DM or AM

If Cesc is going to go I'd want 50 mill and not a penny less all of which MUST be spent on players together with 30 mill in the kitty

I agree, dont think we should settle for less than £50million plus yaya. If Inter can get £40million plus Eto for Zlatan than anything less than what I said would be a joke.
