Almunia

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Almunia

Post by southampton gooner »

Don't think our keeper is getting enough credit on here. He had a bloody good game yesterday and if he had done what chav cech had done he would of got a right slagging off.
Well done some.

Yeah he did great. I don't think we'll see much more of Mr. Lehmann.

yes but did he dribble past his man or score a goal? Useless

Very good performance, made some good saves, credit where credit is due.

Almunia deserves credit for yesterdays performing, but I still don`t make him the best keeper on our books.
Didn`t Lehmann get a slagging off for his blunders ? I think he did

The memory of Almunia's blunders means he's going to have to do a lot to make me forget them. Anyone remember the ironic cheers he got when he caught the ball against Rosenborg in our 5 - 1 win at Highbury?
Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't most shots directed at him anyway? Did he make any outstanding saves?

I was hoping Jens would start against Chavs, but Almunia played really well, as did Flaminal and Gallas. Can't wait to thump six, past that England has been Robinson! :D :D

Yes Almunia did play well yesterday and all credit to him,but is he the long time answer? No. A club as big as Arsenal should have a world class keeper between the sticks

Fair point SG, Almunia does deserve credit for putting in a solid performance yesterday.

LET'S BE HONEST HERE: ALMUNIA MADE THE SAVES THAT HE SHOULD MAKE. ALTHOUGH HE WAS SOLID, NONE OF THOSE HE DID PULL OFF WERE WHAT YOU WOULD CALL OUTSTANDING SAVES.

HE ALSO HAD A BIT OF LUCK WHEN FLAPPING AT SHEVCHENKO'S FIRST HALF SHOT, AND PUSHING MIKEL'S SHOT INTO THE PATH OF THE ON-COMING RUSSIAN INSTEAD OF AROUND THE POST, IN THE SECOND.

I STILL DON'T THINK HE IS TOP QUALITY, BUT LET'S ALL HOPE THAT HE TAKES LOTS OF CONFIDENCE FROM YESTERDAY AND BECOMES A MORE DOMINANT GOAL-KEEPER AS A RESULT.

Chuffing hell IHH. Give the guy some credit. He did well yesterday and apart from one or two minor 'JENS MISTAKES' hasn't really let us down that much!

I agree he isn't world class but which goalkeepers that are currently available are?

I think the difference between a keeper of Almunia's class and say someone like Cech is that a huge deal has been made of Cech's mistake as it is so unlike him.

On the other hand when Almunia makes a mistake we kind of take it with a pinch of salt as there have been quite a few to be fair!

He looked ok yesterday but I don't think he made any saves which were "top draw" or however else you wanna describe it!
