Arsenal Sign Centre Back Laurent Koscielny

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I think you are probably right. The missus is Irish, and my boys insist on supporting Ireland in the rugby. And it seems that my Scottish Grandmother herself had a Grandad that had made the journey across the Irish sea so, one way or another, there's a little bit of oirish in all of us..... :corkbarry: !

The polish/french guy has asked for some time to settle into and adapt to the english game - a totally understandable request but it does raise questions for the start of the season....will wenger ignore his requests and play him before he is ready thus handicapping the team or is there another defender, and more crucially, a first choice defender en route ? Personally I find it extremely hard to believe that wenger would spend 10m on a back up centre back so imo he is likely to be thrown into the deep end at the start of the season and if he is making mistakes how understanding would the fans be given the size of his fee and the need for a strong start ?

I think he'll be thrown in the deep end like Vermaelen. I've searched the archives and Vermaelen asked for the same thing and he done well but lets not start the Kos-Vermaelen comparisment. I'm sure Wenger will know better than anyone if he's ready for the Prem, even if he is first choice, I think we'll see another defender soon and then we can determine who will be partnering Vermaelen.

Wenger is likely to start with TV and Djourou as his first choice centre-back pairing.

You never know, God might even be able to persuade Jesus to sign for us as goal-keeper. After all, he's good at making saves!!

Maybe Koscielny will be the new Vidic. No one of us knew about him when Man Utd signed him. There must a reason why Wenger would pay massive money for a player. I am optimistic. I hope he is something special. Having a strong centre-half pairing is getting half the job done when it comes to the pitch 8)
