Arsene's obsession

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'd much rather pay £500,000 for Kolo Toure.
than pay for rio the druggy, £30,000,000... thats 30million pounds!!

Who did you sell to make up the transfer kitty for him then?
And Rooney,
And Carrick,
And Canada boy,

The sale of Becks dont cover them all now does it?

I am given a piece of metal (call it a footballer)
Status + or - £0.00
I spend £20 machining it to a shape (call it his wages whilst at the club)
Status - £20.00

both the above are considered to be cost of sales

I sell him for £50 (call it his transfer fee)
status + £30.00 (sometimes called profit)

I buy another piece of metal for £50.00 (call it his replacement)
status - £20.00

Where exactly in that did I make money?

no no no .....wages are classed as cost ..if you are to use one parameter , then you need to use the others...

there was NO cost in his transfer..agreed?
so wages are the only costs...( we dont know the figures)

they can be offset by the income from his merchandising(we dont know the figures)

and the income from his contribution to winning varous PL /EC etc.. ( cant be quantified..

if you really want to compare like for like then you cant say that Anelka cost you 500k and sold for 23M can you ..did you not pay him?

or that the losses you made on jeffers 9m to buy 2m sold ..you would need to add his salary on ..so the losses you maed are much more than 7m ..

same with reyes
suker
etc...

well that 30m paid for player that has helped us win 3 PL titles ..what has toure won for his fee?

the money for rooney was offset against the money for becks
the money for carrick was the only money psent that season ..in installemnets..if he is sold then we will amke money back and his cost wont be 18m will it..same with hargreaves

but either way if they help u win the CL and PL this year then they would have paid for themsleves in prize money..

OKAY. One point at a time.

there was NO cost in his transfer..agreed?

pretty much apart from obvious legal etc. but there was no profit was there

so wages are the only costs...( we dont know the figures)

No there are many others i.e. insurance, travel, development etc. but wages are probably by far the biggest

they can be offset by the income from his merchandising(we dont know the figures)

maybe/maybe not. Like you say, we don't know the figures

and the income from his contribution to winning varous PL /EC etc.. ( cant be quantified..

cannot be attributed directly as it would not have differed if he hadn't played at all but you still won

if you really want to compare like for like then you cant say that Anelka cost you 500k and sold for 23M can you ..did you not pay him?

yes we did. but it wasn't £22.5 million in two years

or that the losses you made on jeffers 9m to buy 2m sold ..you would need to add his salary on ..so the losses you maed are much more than 7m ..

same with reyes
suker
etc...

definitely losses for us but then all clubs, yourselves included, make the bad decisions too. Further to that we were only discussing the purchase of Rooney, which you claimed was entirely funded by the sale of Beckham and therefore he cost you nothing. I've proven to you that is not correct. Just accept that. It's no big deal is it? Like I said we all lose sometimes. My point was to make you see that rooney was not Free!

panto are u for real,,
look at the money man u hav spent compared to what arsenal spent in the last 10 years, look at the money manu wasted compared to arsenal,, even a deluded little man like yourself can see who had the better value for money, yes both teams had donkeys and bargains etc but for a club that always calls itself the biggest club then one title in 4 years is fairly bad ( since you keep bringing it up about us )
telling you be careful when that debt ye hav comes calling to be collected because it will and then yere in trouble

Hang on though.......in your examples you have to apply the cost of wages etc!

So please recalculate using the method you thrust at us earlier!
