First ever Arsenal game

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I can't remember the year, late 80s/early 90s. Villa at home, we won 5-0.
The villa goal keeper went off injured, and as it was the days before sub goalies, david platt took over for him. Only they didn't have a spare top so he had to wear an arsenal goal keeper top. Few minutes later they either a found a villa one, or took it off the injured keeper, so they gave it to David, who then took off the Arsenal one, screwed it up in a ball and chucked it away in disgust.
Was at this one too.

We proper slaughtered them that night.

Was this the one where Paul Davis scored an excellent bicycle kick?

I remember a good save from Seaman too.

I was at that game!

Nigel Spink went off and Sausage Platt went in goal! The problem was that Villa didn't seem to have a spare 'keepers top so he wore a spare Arsenal 'keepers top!

How little did we know when in the North Bank we sung........

"You'll never play for Arsenal, you'll never play for Arsenal"!

Whoops!

God i feel old. With exception of Chunky   and CharlieGWCHT (and cork Barry??) I am the oldest around I think. First game was in 69, bore draw v Ipswich. Only about 21000 in the ground. still never looked back. Cos I was (am) a short arse, if i went in the North bank I could see fuck all. There was a whole group of us shorties who used to stand in the West Stand. Back in those days the front of the stand was a terrace 8) and I think it was 9d to get in  Thts about 4p.
My son's first game was the FA cup final against the jammy mickey mousers in 2001. I agree with MK Gould about kids today   my lad just took it for granted we were going to get tickets for Milan and has no idea how much a regular trip up to THOF costs

iceing on the cake , i took a girl who i was crazy about to the game and we ended up hooking up that night . possibly the perfect day .
I was watching this game in the pub and i reckon it would be up there as one of the best games we ever played.

Too right about feeling old mate :? Soon there'll be a generation coming up who won't even remember Highbury and then I'll really know it's time I retired  My first game on the north bank was 40p, as far as I remember no child concessions on the nb, half price was the east stand enclosure but who wanted to stand in there  Sometimes at the new ground amongst all the "sit down and be quiet" prawn sandwich eaters and wearers of pink hats  I really miss the old days but I guess you can't stand in the way of "progress" I have to weight that up against the fact that for the last ten years I've been watching some unbelievably brilliant football tho. A far cry from the days of John Matthews, Terry Mancini, Wilf Rostrron, Richie Powling and co
