Szczesny - He is the One and Only

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

the best thing though surely is his ready made song!

"he is the one and only, you take take that away from me
he is the one and only, you can't beat wojciech szczesny!"

edit: in fact, if he gets the number 1 shirt
"he's number one and only...."

i'm probably saying it wrong, but i've opted for voy'check shezny (and if you're gonna come to england as a footballer with a name like that, i reckon you should be grateful for any song you get!)

But that isn't all that is involved. The quality of the opposition is everything. Many players look great in games against weak oppo but look shite against the top sides when facing technically superior or fitter/faster players. There is also the inflated confidence level a player may have knowing he is not facing a top team. Also relevent is the ammount of pressure a top side will put you under.

I remember playing footy for my school at under 15's and being asked to sit on the bench for the under 17's. A bloke got injured and I was thrown on and I just couldn't believe the difference in pace and quality. I was fucking lost out there.
I'm not getting carried away by Shezny's talent yet because I have not seen him dominate his area when facing the best in the game. He may well do it, but he hasn't yet.

The quality of the opposition is very important in judging how good a player is.

What Db actually means is that it was a huge shock for him to play against a team that was bigger than kindergarden size and his poor little legs were not able to keep up

Like Joe Hart, send him out on loan to a premiership club. Let's see how he copes with the pace and physicality on a weekly basis.

Agreed but dont think he has the rep. of Hart so dont think there will be a queue of Premier League club for him

knowing our luck he will end up leaving and being the best keeper in the prem!
We really should get him to sign that contract.

I can see us losing him in January if he isn't first choice, as he has already shown his discontent.
So unless flappy has a relapse I think Wenger will stand by and allow him to go.

Good points.

We should definitely wait until he signs a new contract.

I think any premiership club would do, mate. Look what unfashionable newly promoted Brum City did for Joe hart and equally what he did for them.

dont care if it was a weak newcastle team he looked strong and commanding. Wouldn’t matter if it was Chelsea as this is obviously his way. The clown and flappy have never been like that and never will, it’s not in them. For a player who has hardly played for the first team to come out, and shout at his defenders and be that commanding is a big thing.

I would play him now before it’s too late. If we do sign a keeper in January then it will be goodbye for him. Would rather test him now as were not going to miss Flappy are we.
