As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The mid 70s were'nt the best of times I remember Jon Matthews and his moustache but don't remember much at all about his playing prowess, I guess that says it all My main memory of Richie Powling is getting butted in the back of the head by Kenny Burns who played for Forest at the time while standing in fornt of a Forest wall at a free kick. Highlighted on motd and if it happened now Burns would have been banned for a few games but such things were'nt used as eveidence in those days. Put your Richie Powling autograph on ebay and watch the bids roll in mate
I'm a hoarder too would never get rid of any Arsenal memorabilia A mates older sister got a lot of the 71 double year players autographs for me on a piece of school, note book paper, tucked into my copy of "Arsenal Arsenal" the story of the 71 double year. Very faded now but priceless
First game Nov 26th 1985 away to Southampton in Milk cup. £3.00 for ticket 50p for programme. Bought ticket day B4 game from Dell box office from tickets Arsenal had sent back not sold. Think we won 3-1 Charlie Nicholas scored 2 cant remember anything else. But that was it I was hooked.
Between 1976 and 1987 I was living in another country and only saw the Arse in away games (actually quite a few, all things considered). Therefore, I hang my head to say, I never actually went to THOF until an FA Cup quarter final in, I think, 1987/88 against Nottm Forest.
54,000+ fans inside, I was just up from the corner flag on the intersection of the North Bank/West Stand.
Forest went 2-0 up before Rocastle (or was it Thomas?) pulled one back shortly before the end. Lost 2-1 but I was sold.
One thing that will always stay with me was an old geezer in front of me. He wore a large Arsenal embroided hat (about 2ft high) and never said a word all game. When we did score I got too carried away and knocked into him. After due apologies and conciliatory handshake he then proceeded to shout blue murder at the team until, 5/10 minutes later the game ended.
He seemed someone who would have been coming to Highbury all his life - maybe the club was his life to that point. After that I went to near enough every home game for the next ten/fifteen years but never saw him again.
I wonder what happened and what the club meant to him. I really wanted to write about him as a contribution to Tom Watts's book 'The End' but never did. I suppose it is that gentlemen, and the people of his ilk, that the North bank truly belonged and what made/makes our club what it is today.
Fleeting moments that you ponder for the rest of your life.
first game was away to Coventry - May 1972. the Tuesday night before the cup final v Leeds (lost 1v0- Mick Jones shoulder etc). we beat Coventry 1v0- Frank McLintock scored. I was in awe of the champions, aged 9. Bag o' chips on way home was about 5p! Incidentally, I bumped into John Matthews in Tescos in the eighties (next to the milk section). couldnt tell you what I did yesterday but the footie memory never fails!!!!!!
