Exactly- I could understand it if they started playing loads of their under 19 squad or something, but if they are "first team" players, then it should be up to the manager to best utilise his players. TBH, it is my opinion that if they think a game is a certain defeat, they are probably right to rotate players. SAFC are away at Chelsea on Sunday, we get fucked there every year, why should we be forced to risk our better players when we have a game coming up that we can actually win? If Bruce chose to play a "full strength" side then fair enough, but it should be his decision, thats what we pay him forREBEL GOONER wrote:its a sad law, you have a squad of players and should be able to field any 11 you want from that squad.
Ian Holloway - lol
And that's why it stinks.safcftm wrote:Had Man United lost to Hull on the last day of the 08/09 season, we could have been relegated- thankfully they won, but this was the team they put out (and they didnt get fined)g88ner wrote:Just out of interest, have Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea or ManUre ever been fined for fielding weakened teams in the league or cups? - if not... then why should Blackpool?
I thought the top clubs have been fielding weakened teams for years. Before cup finals, or important matches, the top clubs use their squads - and in the domestic cups, it's sometimes a case of trying to count the players you recognise!- but, ultimately, as long as the players are registered to play, ANY football club should be allowed to pick the team they want.
Man Utd: Kuszczak, Rafael Da Silva (Eckersley 60), Neville, Brown, De Laet (Possebon 79), Nani, Fletcher, Gibson, Welbeck (Tosic 87), Martin, Macheda.
Subs Not Used: Amos, Corry Evans, Drinkwater, James.
If they didnt get fined for that, then no way should blackpool get fined- one rule for the big clubs, another for the rest
My memory is shit, but I'd imagine we've done a similar thing in the league - and we certainly have in the Champions League!.....
vs. Olympiakos, last December:
Lukasz Fabianski
Kerrea Gilbert
Kyle Bartley
Mikael Silvestre (c)
Thomas Cruise
Aaron Ramsey
Alex Song
Fran Merida
Jack Wilshere
Theo Walcott
Carlos Vela
Yes, we'd already qualified from our group, but it was still of importance to Olympiakos and the other group game. Were we fined? - no, of course not.
The FA and Premier League should only be interested in whether the players are registered or not... after that, ,fuck off and leave team selection to the clubs!

only thing there is that obviously the CL comes under UEFAs watch, rather than the Premier League/FA's, so it might well be the case that there simply isnt such a rule in the Champions League so Arsenal couldn't be punished for it and it doesnt therefore affect the PL squad argument, but none the less i am sure Arsenal will have done it in league games, I know man united have (and more than once), chelsea have no doubt done it, so the league need to either punish everyone or no one. Mind, this time it seems to have just been a journalist asking the question, not sure if the Premier League are genuinely thinking of fining Blackpoolg88ner wrote:And that's why it stinks.safcftm wrote:Had Man United lost to Hull on the last day of the 08/09 season, we could have been relegated- thankfully they won, but this was the team they put out (and they didnt get fined)g88ner wrote:Just out of interest, have Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea or ManUre ever been fined for fielding weakened teams in the league or cups? - if not... then why should Blackpool?

Equally Carling Cup games and FA Cup games shouldnt have the same rule applied since if, for example, Arsenal played a weakened side, it wouldnt harm anyone else, so should be entirely their decision. The league definitely needs to ensure it is consistent though, because league matches do affect other clubs and they need to either drop the rule, limit it (ie specify that any of the 25 man squad can be used but that if under 19's/ reserves etc are drafted in for a particular game they will be punished), or enforce it every time. Personally i'd go for the second option

I don't mind the fine so much but there have been occasions where the top four do it and get nothing so it seems, as safcftm says, one rule for the big boys and another for everyone else.
Bit bizarre Holloway didn't just rotate players over the last few weeks rather then do this ten men change, I also feel he took the wrong end of the stick with the questions and lost his head a little. I like him as a manager, his attitude and his honest answers to questions, I do hope he doesn't leave Blackpool. Also hope he organises their defence properly

But Cup matches don't effect other sides' positions in the same way as league matches do.g88ner wrote:Just out of interest, have Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea or ManUre ever been fined for fielding weakened teams in the league or cups? - if not... then why should Blackpool?

The losers are out of the competition, it doesn't effect other sides in the Cup competition

But Strachan is comic geniusSteveO 35 wrote:His appeal is starting to wane now
Seems to be going down the Gordon Strachan line of trying to play the amateur comedian everytime he comes out to speak to the press (with the emphasis very much on amateur)
Not anywhere near as odious as Strachan but becoming a bit tiresome...

Funny one when the reporter asks Strachan if he can take the defeat and he said 'No I'm going to go home and crumble, turn into an alcoholic and jump of a bridge'Never Outgunned wrote:But Strachan is comic geniusSteveO 35 wrote:His appeal is starting to wane now

The difference for me is that McCarthy basically announced before the game that he was going to throw it and his team clearly didn't try all that hard. Holloway turned up and made the changes (some of which strengthened his side if you ask me), told his team to give it a good go and nearly got a point.
Still don't think either should be fined, they're the manager and it's up to them to use their squads as they want but McCarthy's was disgraceful and much worse than this.
