We've been here before though, only last season in fact. And every time I dare to get my hopes up the inevitable implosion follows, usually around the end of March when we throw it all away against relegation candidates.

I hope i'm wrong but part of me (most of me, even) still expects that to happen this year

most observant and realist arsenal fans know we ain't gonna win the league this season based on previous self destruction in 08 and 10 so I think we should just enjoy the limited time we're still in it

Look – I don’t want to come across as a know-all here, and apologies to anyone that feels insulted by this, but some of the above posts are just a bit too silly and show such a serious lack of a decent grasp on reality that it’d be criminal to let them pass.

The reality is currently we are second in the league. We have a very good chance of catching Utd. Until and unless that disintegrates I think my grasp upon reality is fine.

I really get the feeling that if we won the league or CL some folks would still manage to say we won it only cos so-and-so lost it or, we only won cos it's a sh*t league this season. I'm not saying it's you DB but I'd bet a few would say that.

if ManUre keep on being immune to pens/red cards and refs not only give miles offside goals against us but also pull us back for our own free kicks whenever we have a good counterattack on...

Fair points. And I meant no insult but I just can't understand how anyone cannot see the obvious (not singling you out here CC!).

You are correct - there will be people that say things like that. There are people that have gotten to the stage that nothing Wenger can do will retrieve their faith in him. I'm not at that stage myself. I want him gone but if he turned it round and won major honours this year I'd support him again. It's not being fickle IMHO, it's being realistic - if he can't do the job I want him gone, if he proves me wrong I'll admit I was wrong and support him again.

Some people take it personally and seem to believe if you say Wenger hasn't done the job right for 5 years then that somehow ties you to that opinion and you have to stick with it forever. Which is silly. It's not personal for me - I want what's best for the club at any given time.

Looking at the last 3 years I believe Wenger has had his day.

I do stand by everything I said about our failings. Squad strength wins titles.

Depends on what you define as "blown it".
If you're talking about the lack of signings then I'd disagree to a point because we signed £16m worth of defenders in the summer.
We don't really need another attacking player.
Thankfully we've not been too dirupted in the GK dept. And should he need to it looks as if Mannone could be recalled from his loan spell.
I would say our lack of tactical ability would be our undoing. Five defeats points more towards lack of cohesion or lack of tactical awareness.
Wenger will have to take most of the responsibility for that. Although the players are to blame also.
Wouldn't say we've blown our chance if we don't win it. We were only briefly top of the table.
I think we've been quite solid up to this point, the squad doesn't have so much quality in depth i'll admit that but our determination to hang in there is fantastic.
Even moreso when the likes of Chavs are spending £70+m just to stay in the top 4.
What also must be remembered is that Utd have had the rub of the green in some games, but that being said they were expected to be up there. We were expected to struggle to compete with Scum for 4th spot.
