Great Players Against the Arse...
Great Players Against the Arse...
Just reading the Ronaldo thread, and it got me thinking. Over the years we've all been going to the Arsenal, who is the opposition player you've most looked forward to seeing?
I'm from a younger generation, you see. I've only been going for around 15 years so obviously my selection will be a lot less varied than some of yours, but I think it will be interesting to see.
I remember being excited about seeing Figo and Rivaldo at Wembley when we played (and got ripped apart by) Barca, but in reality, I think the player I was most anxious to see in the flesh was Zidane at Highbury. With that said, I remember going to the Lee Dixon testimonial (against Real Madrid) and being very excited about seeing Roberto Carlos and Raul, but I think I was more excited about Zidane because it was a competitive game.
Anyway, enough about me. What about you lot...?

Oooh this thread is going to border on sacrilige but honesty prevails....
Giggs definatly. When he first came through I think 17 or 18 I couldn't wait to see him in the flesh. And when I did see him at Highbury it was scarily quiet every time he got the ball almost as if would just whip through the entire team.
And even though I didn't turn up to see him play, Ginola for PSG back in 93 really stands out as someone who impressed me, well at least from that point all the way through his Newcastle days, till he dried up to retire in N17.

I remember being at Everton when they bought on the sub Rooney that everyone had been going on about, and the fat fucker scored. When we went to R Madrid away I remember thinking if this lot play to there potentiol we could get done over. And the buck tooth one when we went to Paris for the final v Barca.

As somebody that is not quite old enough to have seen him in his prime, I felt honoured to have seen Cruyff at DB's testimonial. Even that day, although he did very little you could see that his brain still had the ability and his touch was there. His legs might have gone but at that age it was no surprise.
In a competitive match I always liked seeing Cantona and Ginola. When they performed they were on a different level to most.
I also really used to look forward to Fabian Barthez coming to Highbury. F*cking dreadful keeper and always tried his best to help us out.

not having been too many of the BIG GAMES (although i havent missed chavs scum or mancs at emirates) the games where the euro superstars hav come over my dad has almost always kept his season ticket, bastard.
bu the best iv seen would prob be cuntface ronaldo, its obvious he is good but u dont realise HOW good till u see him in flesh.
failing that it would be giggs aswell
i know both bin mancs but they are both great players, in my opinion uniteds best and future best players
