Good. He's exactly not the sort of CB we need

Djourou is nowhere near 6 feet 4"!! If he was he'd be better in the air!

Had more followers than the real one. Same happened with Ray Parlour too.

Djourou IS 6 ft 4 just not great at jumping. Need a bit more muscle too imo.

Just curious, why does the defender need to be 6ft 4?

Just needs to be powerful and good at heading. Djourou is 6ft 4 but hardly a beast.

Would you say that tv5 meets the requirements you speak of ? If so why were we still being destroyed in the air last season when he was playing ? Lets be honest here we badly badly need a mertesacker/cahill/hangaland type of defender to balance out our centre back partnerships

If you can find a smaller defender every bit as dominant in the air as those bigger defenders we know about fine. Question is can you and will we pay the price for that player as i suspect we won't be alone in pursuing him.

Added to that list of commanding centre halves, a relatively unnoticed defender who would fit into that category is Oguchi Onyewu. He's American with foreign parents or something, hence the name. The guy is an absolute tank, the true heavy artillery of a defence. A bit like Terry Crews (the black guy from White Chicks, The Expendables, the start of Terminator Salvation etc.). Imagine having one of those ripped basketball player types in your team. I have him on FIFA too

We won't sign him, but if we did I reckon he could do the same job as Cahill/Hangeland at a cheaper price.

EDIT: He also choked the fuck out of Imbrahimovic (black belt) in a fight while at AC Milan.

Height is not everything, the art of defending is more important.

Who would have Zat Knight over Jagielka or Terry? Hangerland over Carvalho? Curtis Davies over Carnavharo in his prime?

No one would, Jagielka is quality and defends like a defender is supposed to, we don't need anymore ball playing defenders, we need defenders like Jagielka that will head balls and put his body on the line to block all day.

Cannavaro is only 2 inches taller than Arshavin.

And he's 5ft 4, he's 5ft 4......................

FFS we have players like jagielka already and while he may well be a fighter and willing to head the ball it does not hide the fact that at his height he needs a big tall player to partner him like he has had with everton (distan and lescott before him)

Im sorry but there is no one in our team that will head balls all day or defend with his head first while only caring about defending, both Vermaelen and Koscienly come close but both are reckless in the sense of bombing forward while Djourou is ok at everything but not great at anything.

What are you suggesting? Someone tall for the sake of being tall that has the mobility and ability of an obese elephant? Mertsacker and Hangerland fit the bill but neither will sort out our defence like you think they would as our problem is not restricted to the back 4.

If this is true, it's just evidence of the fact that Wenger will not change his philosophy. He CAN'T admit that he's wrong and needs proper defenders in the squad. He tries to go half the way.

Just watch Wenger coach the agression out of Jagielka and turn him into a ball-playing centre-back...

I was watching George Graham on Sky this morning. He said the most important thing about a CB is that they must absolutely love defending with a passion. He reckons all of our centre-backs are essentially midfielders that are playing in defence. I think he's got a point.
