QuartzGooner wrote:If Gervinho has signed, it is a typical Wenger signing in that he is a player who can play in a couple of positions in attacking midfield/forward roles.

For all we know, Wenger might plan to use him wide left to replace Arshavin.

Main thing is it gives us a number of options.

He could play wide right, Nasri central and Theo left, with RvP up front.

Or Nasri could play wide right (which I think is his best position), Theo left and Gervinho central behind RvP.

Chamakh could play central too. So could Ramsey.

Another option:

Gervinho or Chamakh or Ramsey could play as second strikers in a 4-4-2.

But thats not good enough to win the pl or cl or even the carling cup.

It also looks like Cesc will stay as the club won't sell him and Barcelona won't meet the clubs valuation with Nasri perhaps joining him depending on what you believe.

If the dross are going and our best players staying then Gervinho and potentialy Cahill, Samba and Chamberlin make it a good summer and a much better looking set up for next year.

The window is just hotting up, it is plain retarded to be upset by this signing until you see what else happens, if everyone stays and the defence gets sorted then this becomes a good signing and a potential upgrade on Bendtner and Walcott.
Potential upgrade , how often have we heard that, why gamble when you can bring in a definite upgrade.

I dont know why people think we are signing Samba and Cahill, as much as I'd love it to be true.

Agreed!

A potential upgrade on Walcott and Bendtner isnt good enough! And I've heard he isnt as good as Walcott or Bendtner.

I wont celebrate change for the sake of change, not until we see the dross leave the club and quality signings.

Because rumourville is saying that a double swoop is imminent.

Everything is always a potential upgrade until you see how they fit in, there ain't many dead certs left in the game, you could say spend 20m on Hazard or 30m on Benzima, neither have played in this league so they would also have question marks over them until you see how they get on.

What we do know is that Bendtner and Walcott don't cut it so I can't see the negative side of trying to fix it.

Don't celebrate change for change sake but at the same time don't judge because of what you hear unless off course the sheep mentality is how you like to live your life by.

How do any of us know that at this stage?

I agree Bendtner needs to be sold.

Walcott has just had his best season for us and would definitely keep him, though his end of season form was poor.

Can be very dangerous in certain games when his teammates actually make runs into the box for him to pass to, well worth trying as central striker in pre-season games and a useful option to have on the bench.

You read it correctly but didn't understand it...

Chamakh was signed last year as an upgrade to Bendtner, he didn't settle after a decent start and dropped behind him in the pecking order.

Arshavin was signed for a lot of money off the back of a successful Euro's as a genuine World Class player for the squad, he turned out to be far from that in an Arsenal shirt and most don't want him near the team.

Reyes was signed as the next big thing from Spain, didn't settle, went home with his tail between his legs.

While we know most of the dross are garbage there is no guarantee that any big money player or new signing will come in and succeed, football ain't won on paper I guess.

thanx for the sarcasm but save it for your missus......

I read it correctly (obviously missed the sarcasm at which you are so good at).

LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT, gervinho is NOT a big money buy, there ar etens of players out there that could be bought that are better than our current dros and wouldn't be a gamble, surely you don't want names

Thanks for clearing up that Gervinho is not a big money buy but in terms of our transfer record he's not a small one is he?

Go on, name names and then we can pick them apart in real world terms at why he will never sign them.

Shall I start? Ronaldo...

Even aside from that can I also say that we bought arshavin and continued to play him out of position and coached him into a lazy disinterested overweight totally disillusioned player that we now see

Chamakh signed, played a lot early, impressed enough to suggest he would be good enough 3rd choice striker and then seemed to get shafted by wenger after rumours of some sexual story began to circulate. Things got so bad that he was behind bendtner in the pecking order and was only getting a few mins here and there and it is hard to get your form back that way

Funny enough I saw the goals from the 4-4 at Liverpool again today, Arshavin sprinted from outside our own box into their danger area to score his 4th goal, what the fuck happened to him?
