November 1979 at home to Liverppol. Travelled on overnight train from Dumfries to Euston, got in about 6am. Dossed about until 11 or so, few pints, then early to Highbury. Massive queue at North Bank but got in before gates were locked (pay at gate), 3pm kick off.
Ended 0 - 0. Memories of McDermott right through, still don't know how he missed.
Got the overnight train back up from Euston, left about 11pm I think, got into Dumfries early morning Sunday. Remember watching highlights on ITV with my Dad God bless him. Remember trying to point out to him where I was standing.
Travelled down regularly from Dumfries 7 or 8 times a season when they were at Highbury, also went to 3 or 4 away games every season.
It's a lot easier now because I live down here!

Same, January 1994...remember them scoring a free kick early on, a terrible game in front of about 20,000 at Highbury but was hooked from then on and wanted to go all the time!Bendtners Drinking Buddy wrote:Arsenal 1-1 Oldham - Wright equalised with a Penalty! Remember that one like it was yesterday. A genuine white christmas with a blizzard xmas eve/xmas morning and as you say, snow everywhere. Was'nt at the game but remember seeing highlights, think we did everything but score, hit the post/bar goalmouth scrambles etc but maybe that's just me poor old memory playing trickszero 6 wrote:Southampton home Boxing Day 1970. 0-0, snow everywhere, Clock End closed, Arsenal in red shorts. Arsenal 1-1 Queens Park Rangers, on August 17, 1991. Was sat in the East Stand Upper, more concerned with scratchcards than the game itself.
In fact, I was taken to three games that season, but it didn't interest me at that age.
It wasn't until Arsenal 4-0 Ipswich Town, on September 11, 1993, that I became a fan.
So I usually consider the latter to be my unofficial 'first game'.

1970. Away at West Ham. Mate's Dad took us. He sat in the stand and left us two ten year olds to find a space on the terraces.
At half-time we queued up for a drink and some crisps. The adult in front of us asked for a can of cider. We didn't know what it was but we had a couple of cans each. Don't remember much about the game but I'd been a supporter for at least 4 or 5 years so it was brilliant to see the players at last.
First home game. Following season against L'pool. Another 0-0 but I'll never forget seeing the pitch for the first time from the top of the steps.

Not sure of the year, probably late 70's,early 80's. Shrewsbury Town away at the old Gay Meadow. Would probably have been in The League Cup or whatever it was called in them days. Pi55ed it down all night and you had to walk around the outside of the pitch to get to the Riverside Stand. Got plastered in mud walking around and had to stand with my dad in the middle of all the Shrewsbury fans. Details are a bit sketchy but i remember Paul Davis scoring and me having to keep quiet and not cheer.
