Frimpong the new Essien?

Post by cheryl_wants_eboue »

Im tired of all the negativity..yes Arsene is pissing me off with the lack of spending but all of us constantly moaning about it between ourselves is adding to the depression!

So i thought i'd take a positive out of todays game and up until the sending off i felt Frimmers was excelllent..combatative, skillful and engergetic. Exactly what we've been missing since PV4. I know he's going to get slated for his sending off and everyones going to blame Arsene for relying on such an unexperienced player, but you can't forget the amount of reds PV4 saw in his time.

I'm honestly looking forward to seeing Frimpong, Ramsey and Wilshere lining up together in midfield this season. If Arsene pulls out his finger and signs Hazard, Jadson, Baines and Cahill (unlikely I know), I would say our squad is better than last season and won't flop at Feb/March time like we always do.

Cheer up guys!

agreed mate, Frimpong was superb I thought. Got stuck in, made some great runs, looked strong in the tackle and has got more technique than Song will ever have.

I thought the sending off was harsh to be honest. The trip for the second booking wasn't as bad as it looked and the first booking in the first ten minutes was a joke.

The referee was a waste of space.

Exactly mate. I may get slated for agreeing with Arsene but I have to say the amount pathetic refereeing decisions we get is ridiculous. Their first was offside, Firmmers shouldnt have been off and last week we should have a pen (not to mention Barton). Suppose atm its a blessing in disguise, the poor results pressures Wenger into making the additions we need.

Come on mate - watch Frimpong's foul again from the low angle behind our goal because it could easily have been a straight red. His foot was high, his studs were showing and he was nowhere near the ball.

If it had been done to one of our players we'd be up in arms. And so many people have already said that he was a red card waiting to happen from the moment he got his yellow for dissent.

Frimpong looked alright in patches but why are a supposedly top club relying on so many inexperienced youngsters, in the toughest league in the world?

i was impressed with him today, he deserved his second yellow no doubt but not the first. His tackling needs to improve though, he picked up quite a few fouls against udinese as well. But hopefully that will improve with age

Maybe you're right mate, I haven't seen it again and I was watching from near the away fans. Maybe it was just because the ref was a complete fucking joke

I do agree we shouldn't have to rely on these kids, but I do think he looks like he could be a great player.

The foul for his red card was reckless rather than nasty but it was suicidal to do it when he was already on a yellow. And I agree the ref was a bit pony today.

Do you know what kills me though?? For years Wenger talked about "not wanting to kill Diaby or Denilson" by making new signings but he is sure as hell gonna kill good young players like Jenkinson, Ramsey and Frimpong if he keeps chucking them all in to a losing team - that will really f**k up their confidence.

Frimpong needs a Vieira or Gilberto figure alongside him, to guide him through matches but Wenger still refuses to bring in the experience we so badly need.

Thought he played well but his challenge for his second yellow should have been a straight red. It was a leg breaker and we would have been seething if it was done on one of our players. Hopefully he'll learn from today as he looks like a genuine prospect.

I'd agree with that. He is a rough diamond but he's worth persevering with. He just needs to calm down a bit but the thread title is quite ridiculous.

Oh dear god.

Why do we have to have thread titles like this one? It was the guys league debut for crying out loud. Now he's the new Essien after one game. :banghead:

Couldn't you just say, Frimpong looks good don't he? And leave it at that.

For what it's worth, he looked good in patches. But he is completely unintelligent and looks like he wants to brawl more than he wants to play.

Both of these things outweigh the good he did today so after one game I'm going to say:

He needs to work on his attitude and concerntrate on improving the good parts of his game.

Agreed on thread title just asking for people to criticise the lad!

Was one of our best players today, and will be a great player in the future, but right now he's inexperienced and young.

Although he's probably better than Shitty Song anyway.

Sorry didn't realise thread titles were such a touchy area! I like to be a little contraversial ;) lol

I appreciate that the second challenge was suicidal, inexperienced and cost us the game...BUT sometimes the players can't do anything right in the eyes of the fans! One minute we're complaining about our lads being to lightweight, getting bullied, and not caring enough. This guy comes along gives us the much needed bite and he's slaughtered for it..Any successful defensive midfielder in the EPL will have one or two similar incidents in a season. That's how you get the reputation of a "hard man" and let other teams know when they play Arsenal they won't be playing a team of ballet dancers. Hopefully the kid will learn and move on.

I'm just trying to bring a little optimism, no point in dreaming of having established stars, may aswell pick the good of what we've got. Sorry if this annoys anyone.
