You know, I do like talking to you about football, but sometimes I feel that I should just give up. Why do you feel the need to generalise so much?! Robert Pires fits my argument here, and that is; Wenger will not spend huge amounts of money for a player like Kaka or Ronaldinho in his prime - now is spending £7million on Robert Pires an example of Wenger being willing to do that? No it isn't!TheOne2Smooth wrote:sorry to disagree why Pires was playing for Metz he tore a decent Newcastle team apart Arsenal was intrested then so was Juve Milan and Real Madrid he opted to join Marsielles for whatever reason though. He was a big name trouble all people see is premiership players being the only decent players
Just because I'm not putting Pires in '00 in the same bracket as Ronaldinho or Kaka now doesn't mean I don't think he was a decent player ("trouble all people see is premiership players being the only decent players"), it just means he doesn't fit the argument in question

I think our front line has the potential to be outstanding and although i would love big name signing it wouldn't make any sense. After the years of building up players to this standard wenger would't want to undo that work with a new fella.
The only way i could see a big signing is if we sold bendtner or v.persie.
I think a winger is more important, and i think we are in with a shout of getting Ricardo Quaserererer.ljflj - what ever his name is - you know, the one from porto.

I think we are all missing the point. Why wont Wenger sign a ready made world class player?. If likes of Messi and Kaka became available tomorrow why would we not bid for them.Surely improving the team is the most important thing. Its not as if we dont have the money now.
On the subject of RVP how can anyone have real confidence in him lasting a whole season given his injury record over the last year. We must buy a top class striker considering no Dudu till next year

But what if they keep winning the league and we don't? Then what?TheOne2Smooth wrote:Quasmara excellent player but not a big name because he doesnt play for a glamour club.
I love the fact Wenger can find diamonds where as others can find cole.
Wenger keep spending 3million leave the silly money to the chavs and the Mancs

That's why i think we have a good chance of getting him. Not overly know, not at a massive club. Still it could be aroud 15 mil for him.
Although we dont pay overthe odds for big names it seams we dont mind paying overthe odds for our youngsters. It seams every youngster we get we pay out 1-2 mill for, and lets face it we get quite a few and that adds up.
I dont know if this is true but soposedly we have paid around 1.5m for that Miquel from spain, apparantly Man U was only offering around 100k.

I agree 100% with you TS. I am not for 1 second suggesting wenger ceases his production of young players but we need some top class signings to (a) increase the quality of the team right now (b) increase competition so the likes of ade dont go all billy big boots on us(as if
) and (c) to show our players, fans and rivals the world over that we are now a massive club prepared to stand toe to toe with any team/club and are never going to feel intimadated again.

I keep hearing we may not have the cash to spend on world class players. When we were playing at Highbury with gates under 40,000 we bought the likes of Wiltord £13m,Jeffers £8 or £10m and Reyes £13m plus none of these players were remotely world class. Now we have a bigger stadium surely we can afford to pay £20m plus for a player.Great players do not come cheap
