OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

You sure your mate likes football?
Im presuming that is a reply to me... Firstly he isnt my mate nd secondly he is a season ticket holder at St. Marys so would have a rough idea of football. If you read what i wrote "he was good but not £12 million pound good" and a player who scores goals in League 1 (why didnt we sign Dean Windass too while we're at lower league goal scorers) still has a hell of a lot to prove in the Premier League let alone with a £12million price tag too
The deal is potentially £12m, and if we pay that its a bargain because he would be a full international and played lots of games for Arsenal.

We paid £5m upfront for Theo, I would imagine a similar deal is in place.

Ox falls into the same category of every english player, they're overpriced and thus you have to pay over the odds. Jordan Henderson is good but not 18 million pounds worth of good. Same for Andy Caroll etc. Just the way it is.
Yep i agree English players are vastly overpriced but it is strange that Wenger is happy to pay that much money for a largely unproven player when he baulks at a similar price for a proven English defender.....

Anyway going back to the reason i posted the comment about Chamberlain, if you look back, was because Butcher asked if anyone had seen him at Southampton and my brothers mate has!!!
Sid James Flash? Magnificent! Suddenly I have a desire to watch Carry on Screaming which is probably my favourite but they're all timeless classics! :barscarf:
I wrote earlier Camping is one of the best 5 films EVER made, i truely believe that 8) :D
If you have another half matey, I think you print out the following page and 'accidentally' leave it lying around at the beginning of December!! If she really loved you.........

I was unable to watch the Eng u-21 match last night but followed the score on my phone throughout the 90 mins to see how they were getting on.

To score a hat-trick against Iceland (away from home) is seriously impressive. Iceland are top draw when it comes to youth football.

Like a few others, I've been raving on here about Oxlade-Chamberlain's performances for England u-21's. This is by far his best yet.

It's extreme ignorance & lack of knowledge for anyone to dismiss Chamberlain's performance last night.

I'm not sure it is ignorance or a lack of knowledge, more a result of the general depression that hangs over our fanbase at the moment.

Personally, I am delighted with the Ox's performances so far and think he will be pushing first team football for a lot of this season if these performances persist.

Is the kid's remark about focusing on the england under 21's right now deemed acceptable to everybody ? The only reason I am asking is cos we all slated theo for mentioning on several occasions how playing for england was his priority :?

I think that's taken out of context augie. He said the comments in relation to a question asking whether he looked forward to promotion to the England first team.

Dont get me wrong lads cos I too wouldnt be slating him at this stage either but I am wondering how his comments went down with Gooners ? I suppose that the difference with the theo situation is that forest gump kept talking about his international ambitions before establishing himself with the club or before showing enough in his performances for Arsenal despite being at the club long enough to have done so

Anyone who hasn't seen the hat trick, the video is here:

http://blip.tv/arsenalfc/alex-oxlade-ch ... 1s-5620694

His finishing was great last night, and he looked dangerous time and time again down the right and through the middle.

He's actually not the quickest player in the world, but he's powerful running with the ball and has quick feet to skip past players.

He's very direct and can see the space (as seen in his first goal which was excellent) and he can take on a player (as seen in his third, slightly more fortunate goal).

You can only beat what's in front of you, and OC has produced two MOTM displays for the U21s in his last two games, plus a very good performance in the carling cup last month.

Not much more you can ask from a young player. I think he looks a real prospect and there is no question that he's a million times better technically than Theo was at the same age.
