Arsenal will make an £8million bid for FC Cologne striker Lukas Podolski in the summer now that Thierry Henry has filled the gap up front short term with his loan move from New York Red Bulls.
Henry will make his Arsenal return at the Emirates against Leeds on Monday, but Wenger still wants to add to his forward line after Arsenal have become, in their manager’s words, ‘Robin van Persie dependent’, with neither Marouane Chamakh nor Park Chu-Young looking capable of filling in.
But Henry represents the shortterm solution, with Gervinho and Chamakh away this month at the African Cup of Nations.
He will return to New York in February, meaning Arsenal will move for Podolski in the summer, after the German this week said that he favoured staying at Cologne until the end of the season, to be sure of making Germany’s first team at Euro 2012.
But though Cologne managing director Claus Horstmann claimed he was ‘optimistic’ that Podolski would sign a new contract, the striker has just one year left on his deal come June and is keen to play in the Premier League.
Podolski, 26, has scored 14 goals in 16 games in the Bundesliga this season and hopes to be a key part of the German national team at Euro 2012.

So the months between March and May, once TH14 has returned to NY, and when the season hots up, don't appear to matter then? Exactly what will have been done to make us less 'RvP dependant' during that period. As someone else has said here - Podolski has a storming Euro 2012 and we are left scraping around in the bargain bucket as usualstorrmin571 wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... ummer.html

If RvP gets crocked after the window closes we are fucked beyond measure. We could actually suffer a worse post-winter collapse than ever before - something I find hard to comprehend given last year's meltdown

£8m....yeah, I'm sure Cologne won't be able to resist that after Euro 2012

Talksport managed to come up with a cracking article about Arsenal in fact not losing out on Marco Reus because he has a £30million buyout clause written into his new Dortmund contract. Ahhh, fabulous… we could very well see him in an Arsenal shirt this summer then!
