Welcome Back!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Hate the twitter....damn thing actually, waste of time..

Great to see the forum back. I must also say a great effort by one and all. It is the best forum by a mile and I'm extremely grateful for the more family 'friendly' approach as well. :) :D

BG, where are you based in Brazil, near Campinas Airport, the city of "Cidade das Andorinhas" . I might be down on RIO business soon, so looking for a AFC 5 -a side match? :rubchin: :rubchin: 8)

Mike1 wrote:After five weeks away, the forum is back with a new name, a new image, new functionality and, most importantly, some new rules.

When we first launched the forum six years ago we weren’t really sure how it would develop, but the underlying principle was the same which had underpinned The Gooner since it first published in 1987 – to provide a platform for ALL Arsenal fans to share their views with other Arsenal fans.

Over the last year, and in particularly over the last few months, I began to doubt that we were still meeting that objective as I heard from more and more people who told me how they no longer visited the forum because of the negativity and abusive posts. This was at least in part our own fault for having an extremely lenient attitude to what people were allowed to post, with no hard and fast rules about what was deemed acceptable, which also made it more difficult to ban people who over-stepped the mark.

A sequence of events in late January and early February finally persuaded me to suspend the forum because I felt it was damaging not only the reputation of the fanzine, but also of Arsenal fans in general such was the level of abuse directed at the manager, players and other fans who had opposing views.

However, despite the work which the forum creates, I was persuaded that it was still a valuable resource for Arsenal fans to have and with a better infrastructure in place, we should give it another chance.

So we set about upgrading the forum software, making some new rules and recruiting more moderators to keep an eye on the place. Please remember that if it weren’t for them giving up their time the forum wouldn’t exist, so please show your support by familiarising yourselves with the new rules - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34077 - and giving them as few problems to deal with as possible.

I appreciate that the rules won’t be to everyones liking, but the aim is to attract a wider audience to the forum and to do that, we needed to make it a much friendlier and more welcoming environment than it has been in the recent past.

There’s quite a bit of new functionality and I’d suggest you take the time to familiarise yourself with the User Control Panel which contains many of the options available. If something doesn’t work the way you think it should, please let us know and we’ll try to get it sorted.

As this is a fresh start, we also felt it was a good idea to give the forum a new name and “Gooner2Gooner” seems to sum up what it should be about.

Enjoy!

Mike
Hi Mike,
Thanks to you and your team for the new looks and the re-opening of the forum.

[rant]

So let me get this straight - Mike has asked everyone to act a little more respectfully towards each other and to find a way of articulating their views without resorting to swearing (you can still swear, by the way - but f**king try to self-censor) and all of a sudden the toys are getting thrown out of the pram? What a surprise.

The way some of you are carrying on, you'd think the administrators and moderators are the Thought Police. Let me make this clear to all who want to complain about the mods - we do not moderate this forum because it gives us a sense of power or superiority over the other members - we do it because we have all used this forum for a very long time and because Mike has asked us to help out with the up-keep in our spare time. To have a go at the moderators or to call them 'jobsworths' is pathetic, even though I know that some of you (one poster in particular) are only out for the wind-up.

Before Mike re-opened the forum for all of you, he asked all of the mods to respect and to implement a set of rules which will ensure that the forum is a place which can be representative of all walks of Arsenal supporting life, and not a place where people feel like they cannot post because they'll get called a retard because they think that Arsene Wenger isn't a c**t. Doesn't seem too much to ask, to me.

So, let me reiterate - this has gone from a place that had no rules to a place which has some rules. Get over it. No one is asking you to adhere to a certain doctrine, so please grow up and don't act like you're worried that your post will get deleted simply because you have expressed an opinion which differs from the party line. This really isn't very complicated - please do not swear - but if you are going to, put some f**king asterisks in there. Oh, and no racist/homophobic/extreme offensive language. You're all adults, so you all know what is meant by that. Use your common sense. If that short list of rules has now turned your world upside down, then that's too bad, but that is how the forum is going to move forward. Why? Because this is a forum that spun-off from The Gooner fanzine. Remember that? What that means is, this forum represents The Gooner, so it makes sense that those in Gooner Towers would want this place to be somewhere they can be proud of - not a place which is getting a reputation for being an extension of The Sun message boards.

So, in closing, if you don't like Arsene Wenger - that's fine. That won't get you a ban. If you think that Feo is crap at football, that is also fine. Just, please, articulate your thoughts like an Arsenal fan. Not a Spu*s one. Ta very much.

only people with poor IQ and lack of intelligence have the need to swear, because they don't have the vocabulary to hold a proper conversation. you don't see any swear words in the works of Shakespeare :D :D

After what happened to Gooner.ed the other night, there will be new rules etc but the site admin haven't got round to doing it yet. Will be opened up soon though.

What happened to Gooner Ed?

Have to err towards agreeing with percy, frank and the mackem. The problems that arose on this forum were nowhere near as bad as people are trying to make out and certainly nothing that one or two extra moderators and banning one poster would not have fixed. Closing the forum was a massive overreaction and the new rules make this place no better then the old official forum and certainly worse then the AFC forum. I haven't bought a copy of the gooner since the closure and I shall continue not to do so while this new regime is in place.

I know one-man protests are rather pathetic but its the best I can do 8)

Oh and the name of the main forum is also rather embarrasing. "On the terraces".... but no swearing.

I have to say the Nazi symbol in your picture is a least very 'irritating', maybe I don't get the joke or maybe there is no one
