PODOLSKI
Re: PODOLSKI
I don't know why you're all so worried about losing RvP, with our track record of only signing "super quality" replacements. Now that SQ Park has avoided his military service for a few years, we've got the ready made replacement
Anyway, remember its approaching that time of year when Chief Chump Ivan the Terrible will be warming up those season ticket holders with expectations of a "busy window" and Wenger's denial period of not selling our best players
Predictions for the Summer. RvP departs and we get a maximum fee of £25m. Half of it is spent on Podolski, another 6m or so on some no-mark from Ligue 1, we pocket the difference and cut the wage bill
Still, there will be some nice new replica kits at £55 a pop and we're closing to realising the latest batch of property sales.
What could be better ?

Not much the club can do now if Van Persie decided to leave. We would have no choice but to sell or risk getting zero for him the following summer. If he hasn't wanted to sit down and discuss a new contract in the last season or so then what do you do?
Re: PODOLSKI
I'll carry on doing the "super quality" stuff to death too mate.....a little reminder for all the goldfish brains about to be duped for the umpteenth summer in succession when they listen to Arsene and Ivan's guff. No doubt you're in the "this Summer he'll sort it out" camp are you?kiwomya wrote:I reckon you've done the "super quality" joke to death now mate.SteveO 35 wrote:I don't know why you're all so worried about losing RvP, with our track record of only signing "super quality" replacements. Have you ever asked yourself why it only seems to happen to us with our star players in recent seasons? Spurs crushed the Modric stuff pretty succesfully in the Summer didn't they? How come our top players are allowed to get into this position time-in, time-out? It can hardly be an accident. Perhaps if we'd signed the likes of Hazard and Podolski last Summer, and not wasted available funds on second raters like Park, Mertesacker and Gervinho, our captain would have already renewed his deal and we'd be saved the trouble.
By the way....did I mention the words "super quality"
Re: PODOLSKI
Exactly!¬ Thats cause the f*cking "club" (ie Wenger) should have done more in the summer, and previous wasted windows instead of either doing nothing or buying "prospects" who dont make the grade and sit on nice fat contracts.kiwomya wrote:I reckon you've done the "super quality" joke to death now mate.SteveO 35 wrote:I don't know why you're all so worried about losing RvP, with our track record of only signing "super quality" replacements. FFS sometimes I despair. Short memories and jam tomorrow eh?

Re: PODOLSKI
Not in any camp. I want the club to do the best it can regardless of who's in charge. Do you not remember Ferguson saying that Ronaldo was not for sale? only for him to leave the club that summer.SteveO 35 wrote:I'll carry on doing the "super quality" stuff to death too mate.....a little reminder for all the goldfish brains about to be duped for the umpteenth summer in succession when they listen to Arsene and Ivan's guff. Was Modric coming to the end of his contract last summer?
Re: PODOLSKI
Van Persie himself was signed as a prospect! So if we hadn't of bothered back then we wouldn't have ended up in this mess I suppose.armchair supporter wrote:Exactly!¬ Thats cause the f*cking "club" (ie Wenger) should have done more in the summer, and previous wasted windows instead of either doing nothing or buying "prospects" who dont make the grade and sit on nice fat contracts.kiwomya wrote:I reckon you've done the "super quality" joke to death now mate.SteveO 35 wrote:I don't know why you're all so worried about losing RvP, with our track record of only signing "super quality" replacements. "You don't think we'd get into a contract with that mob? I wouldn't sell them a virus" - Sir Alex Ferguson on Ronaldo and Madrid
Re: PODOLSKI
Difference being that Wenger has continued stubbornly to perservere, mollycoddle, praise and overpay those who it was quite obvious to anyone with half a brain long ago were not good enough. Thus stiffling the transfer/wages budget. Now we cant get rid of the underachievers.kiwomya wrote:

Re: PODOLSKI
Van persie was signed as a prospect when we had Bergkamp, Henry, PV4, Bob Pires, Freedie etc so he was brought into the club to learn from top quality players and maybe be good enough to play alongside them in 2 or 3 years time - nowadays we buy prospects and play them alongside sub standard players and expect them to bring glory to the club

Re: PODOLSKI
I could be wrong mm99 but I think ferguscum didnt make that comment about ronaldo and only made the comment last season after the portugese diving c**t had left
Re: PODOLSKI
Yes, what a fantastic example about Man United and Ronaldo
I seem to remember they received an £80m, world record transfer fee. I can just see us doing the same.
We got less for Cesc Fabregas - whose contract wasn't about to expire - than Newcastle did for that useless fucking lampost Andy Carroll
Still, shouting into a void with the usual suspects here.....

Ferguson made that comment in November 2008, mate. Ronaldo moved to Madrid the following summer.augie wrote:I could be wrong mm99 but I think ferguscum didnt make that comment about ronaldo and only made the comment last season after the portugese diving c**t had left

Yes it is a fantastic example as it's bang on what we were talking about, i.e that a top quality manager has said they won't sell their player but then have.SteveO 35 wrote:Yes, what a fantastic example about Man United and Ronaldo

Just now have you decided to bring up the issue of how each club recievied in fees respectively.
I suppose next you'll change the issue onto how many trophies SAF has won in comparison to Wenger.
Changing the goalposts. Still, to be expected in a discussion with the usual suspects here.....
Re: PODOLSKI
So please clarify something for me MM-99
Are you saying its not relevant how much you receive in transfer fees for the player in question? I'll ignore your silly attempt to try and start an argument about trophies won by each manager.
When Ferguson came out with those comments it was a clear message to Madrid that United weren't going to be fucked about. Everyone, including Ferguson, knew that Ronaldo would eventually go there. Gary Neville admitted as much in his book, but in sending out that message to Madrid they knew they would have to match United's asking price or forget it.
Similarly Levy has said Modric won't be allowed to leave but if Chelsea, City, Barca or Madrid came up with £50m+, he would be allowed to go. There's always a right price
We sold Thierry Henry for the same price that Darren Bent moved for that year. Fabregas for less than Carroll last year. RvP is now heading towards the end of his contract and prices of c. £30m are being quoted because of the way the situation has been allowed to develop. Apparently Hazard will go for £35m+ - how can a second tier club like Lille manage to dictate the price to the market in a way that we can not.

Re: PODOLSKI
seem to remember united making ronaldo stay for a season then maxing out his transfer fee. likewise rvp should be forced to play down his contract, who know if the club showed an iota of ambition as he was running it down then he could sign on again.
wasting your time stevo. if the 'usual suspects' havent seen whats been in front of them for at least 5 years, they wont start now. no point arguing, if people dont want to see something thats so obvious to everyone else, then they just wont.
these people would still be defending the current regime if they took us down.
