When away teams turn us around ......

When away teams turn us around ......

Post by ElliotGooner »

...we never seem to win! i.e Wigan on Monday. I know the players are obviously in a habit of attacking the North Bank in the 2nd half, often when we desperately need a goal, yet when we shoot to the Clock End in the 2nd half, instead of the first half, the players performance and tempo mirrors that of our general first half play i.e. slow tempo in build up play, lack of goals and too much respect paid to the opponent. My season ticket is in the Clock End and I can only name one match, Brum at home last season, when we have won when this has happened.

Surely it should not have as great an impact as it does on the players psychologically?

As soon as I walked into the ground last night, I had a bad feeling attacking the North Bank in the 1st half. It's quite pathetic but it must affect them.

I might ask Orbinho what the stats are for us attacking the other way round.

this is a very good point.

as I was in the clock end I was quite pleased as I thought I would see a good attacking performance close up in the 2nd half. It never happened :(

I said that as soon as it happenned, we were looking forward to the second half (being in the clock end) but it doesnt feel right does it!

Was the same at Highbury.

That said, when i used to captain my Rugby Team id switch ends every single time - im suprised more sides dont do it.......may only be a 0.5% gain, but anything that unsettles the opposition is worth it.

But on Monday the CE was basically all Arsenal anyway. :?

Plainly & simply we just ran out of ideas (& width) in the 2nd half. If Benny, The Fivehead & especially Walcott had stopped coming inside so early, clogging up all the space & leaving no outlet out wide, maybe we'd have stretched Wigan more. Chances would open up, the crowd would respond in kind & you get the reciprocal 12th man wind-in-their-sails momentum we had for a bit in the first half.

Milan 2nd leg we attacked the CE first half (with far more away fans in it than on Monday) & scored 3. Second half attacking the NB we ran out of steam.

All teams have their "end" they like attacking 2nd half so I guess maybe there is something to it but personally I reckon it had sod all to do with Monday night. Maybe Song just forgot to wear his lucky Batfink jockstrap & come out 2nd last while crossing himself, hopping 3 times on his left foot & kissing Szczesny's ring. :?

Used to see quite a few away teams do this at Highbury if they won the toss. Understandable as a tactic to unsettle the home team.

The scoring record at the new staduim is overwhelming higher at the North Bank end, but it is usually attacked in the second half when most goals are scored in football matches anyway.
